Exploration is at the heart of No Man's Sky, and discovering the unique fauna and flora of alien planets is a rewarding aspect of the game. Each planet hosts a diverse ecosystem, with creatures and plants that are procedurally generated. Cataloging these discoveries not only provides valuable Nanites but also contributes to your overall understanding of the galaxy's biodiversity.
Your Analysis Visor is your primary tool for cataloging lifeforms. When you encounter a new creature or plant, aim your visor at it and hold the scan button. A progress bar will fill, and once complete, the lifeform's data will be added to your Catalogue. Completing the entry for a species by scanning all its variations or unique behaviors will grant you Nanites. Some rare or particularly interesting creatures and plants may also offer unique resources or have specific interactions.
Using the Analysis Visor
- Targeting: Aim your visor at a creature or plant.
- Scanning: Hold the scan button until the progress bar is full.
- Data Acquisition: Information about the lifeform will be added to your Catalogue.
- Completing Entries: Scan multiple individuals or observe specific behaviors to fully complete an entry and earn bonus Nanites.
Fauna (Creatures)
Creatures in No Man's Sky vary wildly in size, appearance, and behavior. Some are passive and will flee from you, while others are aggressive and will attack. Some creatures can be tamed and even ridden or used as companions.
- Passive Creatures: Often found grazing or wandering. Can usually be scanned without issue.
- Aggressive Creatures: Will attack on sight. It's often best to scan them from a safe distance or after neutralizing them.
- Taming: Feeding creatures Creature Pellets can sometimes pacify them or allow you to interact further.
- Riding: Some larger creatures can be ridden after taming, providing a unique mode of transport.
Flora (Plants)
Plants range from small bushes and fungi to towering trees and exotic flora. They are a primary source of raw materials.
- Resource Yield: Most plants can be harvested with your Mining Beam for resources like Carbon, Condensed Carbon, or specific plant-based materials.
- Exotic Flora: Some planets feature rare and unique plants that may yield valuable crafting components or have special properties.
- Farming: Many types of flora can be cultivated at your base using Hydroponic Trays or Biodomes.
The Catalogue
Your Catalogue is a comprehensive record of all the fauna and flora you have discovered. It lists each species, its planet of origin, and any data you have collected. Completing entries in the Catalogue is a sificant source of Nanites, which are crucial for upgrading your technology.
Tips for Discovery
