Galactic Map & Star System Navigation
Navigating the vast expanse of No Man's Sky is made possible by the Galactic Map. This powerful tool allows you to plot courses, discover new star systems, and understand the galactic economy. Mastering its features is essential for efficient exploration and reaching your ultimate destination.
The Galactic Map is accessed from your starship's cockpit. Upon opening it, you'll see a representation of the galaxy, with your current location at the center. Various icons and colors indicate different types of star systems, such as yellow (G-type), red (M-type), and blue (B-type), each with unique characteristics and resources.
Key navigation features include:
- Warping: Your hyperdrive allows you to jump between star systems. The range of your jumps is determined by your hyperdrive's upgrades and fuel. You can select a destination system on the Galactic Map and initiate a warp.
- Quest Markers: Active missions and story quests will often display markers on the Galactic Map, guiding you to your next objective.
- Discovery Trails: If you've previously visited a system, its icon will appear on the map, allowing you to easily return.
- Filters: The map offers filters to highlight specific types of systems, such as those with high trading activity, rare resources, or specific mission objectives.
To plot a course to a new system, simply select it on the map. The game will then calculate the required warp fuel and the number of jumps needed. You can also set custom waypoints to mark systems of interest for future exploration.
Understanding star system types is beneficial:
- Yellow Stars (G-type): Common, balanced resources.
- Red Stars (M-type): Often rich in rare minerals and exotic resources.
- Blue Stars (B-type): Typically found in wealthy systems with advanced technology.
Always ensure your hyperdrive is fueled with Warp Cells or Warp Hypercores before embarking on long journeys. These can be crafted or purchased from space stations.
