Upon landing, your first action should be to scan your immediate surroundings. Use your scanner to identify nearby resources, points of interest, and any potential threats. The scanner is crucial for locating valuable minerals like Copper, Cadmium, and Indium, as well as organic resources like Gamma Root and Solanium, which are vital for crafting and survival.
Exploration Tools:
- Scanner: Essential for identifying resources, flora, fauna, and points of interest. Upgrade its range and efficiency.
- Terrain Manipulator: Allows you to dig into the ground, create tunnels, and access underground resources or hidden structures.
- Exosuit Upgrades: Enhance your Hazard Protection, Life Support, and Inventory space to explore more extreme environments for longer.
- Analysis Visor: Provides detailed information about scanned objects, including their properties and potential uses.
As you explore, you'll encounter various structures: abandoned depots, crashed freighters, abandoned buildings, and even alien settlements. These locations often contain valuable loot, lore entries, or offer opportunities for quests. Interacting with terminals within these structures can yield blueprints, resources, or trigger events.
Discovering Life:
Scanning flora and fauna is a core part of exploration and contributes to your discoveries. Each new species you scan earns you Nanites and contributes to your overall standing with the Interloper's Guild. Some creatures can be tamed and used as companions, while others are best avoided. Pay attention to their behavior and aggression levels.
Navigating the Terrain:
Planets can have diverse terrain, from vast plains and towering mountains to treacherous ravines and dense forests. Your Exosuit's jetpack is crucial for navigating verticality and crossing gaps. For longer distances, consider summoning your Starship or using a ground vehicle like the Nomad or Roamer, which can be crafted at your base.
Environmental Hazards:
Be mindful of planetary hazards. Extreme temperatures, toxic atmospheres, radiation, and storms can quickly deplete your Exosuit's protection. Always ensure your Hazard Protection is adequately charged and consider crafting environmental protection upgrades for specific planetary types (e.g., Heat, Cold, Toxin, Radiation).
