Starships
Your Starship is your primary mode of interstellar and planetary transportation in No Man's Sky. It's your ticket to exploring new star systems, engaging in space combat, and carrying valuable cargo. Owning and upgrading your Starship is a fundamental aspect of the game.
Starships come in various classes (C, B, A, S) and types (Fighter, Explorer, Hauler, Shuttle, Exotic, Sentinel Interceptor, Living Ship). Each type has distinct strengths and weaknesses, influencing their maneuverability, cargo capacity, warp range, and combat effectiveness.
Starship Types:
- Fighter: excels in combat, with high maneuverability and weapon potential.
- Explorer: desed for long-distance travel, boasting superior warp range and fuel efficiency.
- Hauler: features the largest cargo capacity, ideal for trading and resource transport.
- Shuttle: a balanced all-rounder, offering moderate stats across the board.
- Exotic: rare and unique, often with exceptional warp range and distinctive dess, but limited cargo space.
- Sentinel Interceptor: powerful ships acquired by defeating Sentinels, featuring unique weapon systems.
- Living Ship: organic ships with unique mechanics, requiring a special questline to acquire.
Acquiring Starships:
You begin with a basic Starship. To acquire new ones, you can:
- Purchase at Space Stations: Dock at a space station and visit the Ship Vendor. You can trade in your current ship or pay with Units.
- Find Crashed Ships: Explore planets for crashed Starships. You can repair them and claim them, or harvest them for valuable scrap.
- Discover Freighters: Occasionally, you can find derelict freighters or purchase capital ships that come with their own hangar bays.
Starship Upgrades:
Improving your Starship's performance is crucial. You can install technology modules in your ship's inventory:
- Hyperdrive: Increases warp range and fuel efficiency. Essential for exploring distant systems. Look for upgrades for different star colors (Red, Green, Blue).
- Shields: Enhances your ship's defensive capabilities in combat.
- Weapons: Boosts damage output for dogfights. Common weapons include the Infra-Knife Accelerator, Rocket Multi-Tool, and Laser Multi-Tool.
- Engines: Improves maneuverability and boost power.
Upgrades are typically purchased from vendors at space stations or found as rewards from missions and discoveries. S-Class upgrades offer the best performance.
Starship Inventory:
Each Starship has its own inventory slots, separate from your Exosuit. Haulers have the most slots, while Fighters and Shuttles have fewer. You can expand your ship's cargo capacity by purchasing upgrades at space stations.
Landing and Takeoff:
To land on a planet, fly towards a clear, flat area and initiate landing. To take off, ensure your Launch Thrusters are fueled (usually with Carbon or Condensed Carbon) and engage the engines. You can also summon your ship to your location if it's within range.
Your Starship is more than just a vehicle; it's your mobile base and your primary means of traversing the galaxy. Investing in its upgrades and acquiring different ship types will sificantly enhance your exploration and survival capabilities.
