HUD Elements Explained
Understanding your Heads-Up Display (HUD) in Oni is crucial for survival and tactical mastery. This detailed breakdown will help you interpret every vital piece of information presented to you, ensuring you're always one step ahead of the Syndicate.
Top-Left: Health and Shield Indicators
- Health Bar (Green): This horizontal bar represents Konoko's current health. When it depletes, Konoko is incapacitated.
- Strategy: Health can be restored by picking up Health Packs (small green crosses) found scattered throughout levels, often in medical bays or near defeated enemies. Prioritize these during intense firefights.
- Actionable Tip: In the 'Rooftop Pursuit' mission, after disabling the first turret, a Health Pack is hidden behind the ventilation shaft on the eastern side of the roof.
- Shield Bar (Blue): Located directly above the Health Bar, this bar indicates your active shield capacity. Shields absorb incoming damage before your health is affected.
- Strategy: Shields automatically regenerate after a short period of not taking damage. Utilize cover effectively to allow your shields to recharge.
- Item: Shield Cells (small blue batteries) instantly restore a portion of your shield. These are less common than Health Packs but invaluable in prolonged engagements.
- Actionable Tip: During the 'Warehouse Infiltration' mission, a Shield Cell is located on the second floor catwalk, near the control panel for the cargo lift.
Top-Right: Weapon and Ammunition Display
- Current Weapon Icon: Displays a small icon representing the weapon Konoko currently has equipped.
- Strategy: Familiarize yourself with each weapon's icon to quickly identify your loadout at a glance.
- Ammunition Count: Shows the remaining rounds in your current magazine, followed by the total reserve ammunition for that weapon. (e.g.,
30/120for the SMG).- Strategy: Keep a close eye on your ammo count, especially for high-fire rate weapons like the Mercury SMG or the Plasma Rifle. Reload proactively during lulls in combat.
- Item: Ammo Packs (small yellow boxes) are specific to weapon types. Picking up an SMG Ammo Pack will only replenish your SMG ammunition.
- Actionable Tip: In the 'Syndicate HQ' level, before entering the main server room, check the small armory on the left for a Grenade Launcher Ammo Pack.
Bottom-Center: Crosshair and Target Lock
- Crosshair: Your aiming reticle. It changes color to indicate target acquisition.
- Green: No target or non-hostile.
- Red: Hostile target acquired.
- Flashing Red: Critical hit zone (headshot) on a hostile target.
- Target Lock Indicator: A small bracket or outline that appears around an enemy when they are within your weapon's effective range and line of sight.
- Strategy: Utilize the target lock to improve accuracy, especially with slower-firing weapons like the Scram Cannon.
- Actionable Tip: For precise shots with the Phase Disruptor, wait for the flashing red crosshair to ensure maximum damage against armored enemies like the Elite Strikers.
Bottom-Left: Objective Tracker / Compass
- Objective Marker: A small arrow or icon pointing towards your next primary objective.
- Strategy: If you're ever lost, follow this marker. It often updates dynamically as you complete tasks.
- Actionable Tip: The objective marker will guide you through the labyrinthine 'Bio-Research Labs' to the Data Core. Pay attention to its vertical position as well, indicating if the objective is above or below you.
- Compass (Optional): In some missions, a small directional compass may appear, indicating general directions or points of interest.
- Strategy: Use the compass in conjunction with the objective marker for better situational awareness in open areas.
Bottom-Right: Special Ability / Item Slot
- Special Ability Icon: Displays the icon for any currently equipped special ability or consumable item (e.g., a Frag Grenade or a Medkit if not auto-used).
- Strategy: Remember which button activates this slot and use it strategically. Grenades are excellent for clearing groups of enemies or flushing out entrenched foes.
- Actionable Tip: During the 'Subterranean Complex' mission, use a Concussion Grenade to stun the heavy armored guards before engaging them directly.
