Encountering the Syndicate

Fortification: Syndicate members defending a fortified structure.
Transportation: Syndicate members escorting a cart or convoy.
Research: Syndicate members experimenting in a laboratory.
Intervention: Syndicate members ambushing you directly.

Each encounter will feature 2-4 Syndicate members. Defeating them initiates a crucial decision phase.

Decision Phase: Interrogation or Bargain

After defeating Syndicate members, Jun will appear, offering you choices for each defeated member. These decisions directly impact the Syndicate's internal hierarchy and your eventual rewards. The primary options are:

Interrogate: This option sends the Syndicate member to prison for a set number of turns (typically 3-4). While imprisoned, they cannot appear in encounters. Upon release, they will have a higher rank and often reveal valuable intelligence. This is generally the best option for increasing their rank and thus their reward potential.
Bargain: This option offers an immediate, one-time reward or a direct manipulation of the Syndicate board. Bargains can include:
- Revealing Mastermind's Safehouse: Instantly reveals a safehouse, allowing you to raid it.
- Moving Members: Swaps two members' positions or removes a member from a division.
- Adding/Removing Relationships: Alters the trust/distrust relationships between members.
- Granting Currency/Items: Direct drops of valuable items like Exalted Orbs, Divine Orbs, or unique items.
- Granting Veiled Items: Items with special veiled modifiers that Jun can unveil for you.
Bargaining is often useful for immediate gains or for fine-tuning your Syndicate board, especially when you need specific members in certain divisions.

Strategy Tip: Prioritize Interrogation for members you want to rank up, especially those in divisions that offer desirable rewards. Use Bargains strategically to reveal safehouses when ready or to manipulate relationships for better outcomes.

Syndicate Board Management

The Syndicate board is accessible via Jun in your hideout or by pressing 'H' during an encounter. It displays the current hierarchy, relationships, and division assignments of all Syndicate members. Understanding this board is key to maximizing your rewards.

Ranks: Members can be Rank 1, 2, or 3. Higher ranks mean better rewards when their safehouse is raided.
- To increase rank: Interrogate them repeatedly.
- To decrease rank: Defeat them and choose to execute (if available, usually from specific bargains).
Divisions: Each of the four divisions (Fortification, Transportation, Research, Intervention) offers unique rewards when their safehouse is raided.
- Fortification: Focuses on defensive items, unique strongboxes, and sometimes maps.
- Transportation: Often provides currency, unique items, and sometimes scarabs.
- Research: Best for crafting materials, Fossils, Essences, and veiled items.
- Intervention: Known for valuable unique items, Scarabs, and Exalted Orbs.
Relationships: Members can have positive (trust) or negative (distrust) relationships.
- Trust: Members with trust relationships will appear together more often in encounters, making it easier to manipulate their ranks and positions.
- Distrust: Members with distrust relationships will actively try to betray each other, which can lead to them swapping divisions or even being demoted.

Strategy Tip: Aim to get members with highly desirable rewards (e.g., Catarina for crafting, Vorici for white sockets) to Rank 3 in their respective divisions. Manipulate relationships to group members you want to rank up together, or to separate those you want to demote.

Safehouse Raids

Once enough intelligence is gathered for a division, its safehouse will be revealed. You can then speak to Jun to initiate a raid. Safehouse raids are mini-dungeons culminating in a boss fight against the leader of that division. Defeating the leader grants you access to their personal stash of rewards, which scales with the ranks of all members within that division.

Preparation: Ensure your character is adequately geared for the boss fight. Safehouse bosses can be challenging.
Rewards: The rewards are displayed before you enter the safehouse. This allows you to prioritize which safehouse to raid first based on your current needs.
Reset: After a safehouse raid, all members in that division are reset to Rank 0, and new intelligence gathering begins.

The Mastermind's Lair: Catarina

After successfully raiding all four division safehouses, the Mastermind's Lair will be revealed. This is the ultimate confrontation with Catarina, the leader of the Immortal Syndicate. This encounter is significantly more challenging than individual safehouse bosses but offers the most lucrative rewards, including unique items, powerful veiled modifiers, and significant crafting opportunities.

Phased Fight: Catarina's fight has multiple phases, each with distinct mechanics. Be prepared for a long and demanding encounter.
Crafting Bench: After defeating Catarina, a special crafting bench becomes available, offering unique crafting options based on the Syndicate members you had ranked up. This is where you can apply powerful veiled modifiers to your items.
