Combat Basics: The Turn-Based System

Persona 5 Royal features a dynamic turn-based combat system that rewards strategic thinking and exploitation of enemy weaknesses. Understanding the core mechanics is essential for overcoming the numerous challenges you'll face in both Palaces and Mementos. Mastering this system will turn the tide of battle in your favor.

The foundation of combat is the turn order. Each character and enemy gets a turn to act. Attacking an enemy's weakness (elemental, gun, or physical) grants you a '1 More' turn, allowing another character to act immediately. Successfully exploiting weaknesses on all enemies in a group triggers an 'All-Out Attack,' dealing massive damage to all foes. Conversely, hitting an enemy's resistance or nullification will end your turn prematurely.

Beyond basic attacks, Personas grant access to a wide array of skills, including elemental spells, healing, buffs, and debuffs. Utilizing these skills effectively is key. For instance, applying debuffs like 'Sukukaja' (evasion boost) or 'Rakukaja' (attack boost) to your party can sificantly improve survivability and damage output. Conversely, using 'Sukunda' (evasion down) or 'Rakunda' (attack down) on enemies can turn the tide of a difficult fight.
