F.O.E. Strategies (Per Dungeon)
F.O.E.s (Formidable Opponent & Enemies) are the most dangerous threats you'll face in Persona Q2's labyrinths. These powerful shadows patrol specific routes and often require unique strategies to overcome. This section details how to navigate around them, or, if you're feeling brave, how to defeat them for valuable rewards.
Kamoshidaman's Castle (A.K.A. "A.I.G.I.S. of the Labyrinth")
F.O.E.: Shadow Kamoshidaman
- Location: Appears on the 2nd and 3rd Floors.
- Description: A hulking, red-skinned shadow that patrols fixed routes. It moves one tile for every step you take.
- Strategy:
- 2nd Floor Navigation: On the 2nd Floor, Shadow Kamoshidaman blocks the path to the stairs leading up. You'll need to lure it away. From the entrance to the 2nd Floor, head east until you reach a dead end with a treasure chest containing a Revival Bead. The F.O.E. will follow your movement. Once it's moved past the staircase, quickly double back and take the stairs up to the 3rd Floor.
- 3rd Floor Puzzle: The 3rd Floor introduces multiple Shadow Kamoshidaman F.O.E.s. Your goal is to reach the central platform.
- First F.O.E.: This one patrols a small square. Wait for it to move to the north side, then quickly dash south and west to avoid its patrol route.
- Second F.O.E. & Switches: Further in, you'll encounter two F.O.E.s and a series of floor switches. These switches temporarily open and close gates.
- Activate the blue switch to open the path to the east.
- Lure the eastern F.O.E. into the newly opened path.
- Activate the red switch to close the gate behind the F.O.E., trapping it.
- Proceed to the north, where another F.O.E. patrols. Use the same luring and trapping technique with the remaining switches to clear your path to the central area.
- Combat (Optional): If you choose to fight Shadow Kamoshidaman, be prepared for a tough battle. It is weak to Ice and Electric attacks. Focus on exploiting these weaknesses with characters like Yukiko (Ice) and Akihiko (Electric) to trigger Boosts and All-Out Attacks. It resists Physical attacks. Ensure your party has healing Personas equipped, and consider using items like Snuff Souls to maintain SP. Defeating it yields rare materials for powerful equipment at the workshop.
Junessic Land (A.K.A. "The Movie of the Dinosaurs")
F.O.E.: Pterodactyl Terror
- Location: Primarily found on the 1st and 2nd Floors.
- Description: A flying F.O.E. that moves two tiles for every one step you take. It has a wider detection range than ground-based F.O.E.s.
- Strategy:
- 1st Floor Avoidance: The Pterodactyl Terror on the 1st Floor is best avoided until you've gained a few levels. Its speed makes direct confrontation difficult early on. Utilize the dense foliage and narrow passages to break line of sight. There's a section where you need to cross an open area; wait for the Pterodactyl to fly to the far side before making your dash. Keep an eye on your minimap for its movement.
- 2nd Floor Chase Sequence: On the 2nd Floor, a Pterodactyl Terror will initiate a chase sequence in a long, winding corridor.
- You'll need to sprint through, hitting floor switches that open gates ahead of you.
- The key is to anticipate its movement. As you activate a switch, immediately move to the next section. Do not linger.
- There are several small alcoves along the path. If you get too close to the F.O.E., you can duck into an alcove to break its pursuit temporarily, allowing you to gain some distance.
- Collect the Dino Bone from the chest in the final alcove before escaping.
- Combat (Optional): The Pterodactyl Terror is vulnerable to Wind and Gun attacks. Characters like Morgana (Wind) and Akechi (Gun) are excellent choices. It has high Agility, so consider using accuracy buffs or evasion debuffs on it. Be wary of its "Screech" ability, which can inflict Fear on your party. Having Personas with Amrita Shower or items like Dis-Fear are highly recommended. Defeating it can drop Sharp Talons, useful for crafting.
A.I.G.I.S. of the Labyrinth (A.K.A. "Kamoshidaman's Castle")
F.O.E.: Guard Dog
- Location: Found on the 1st and 2nd Floors.
- Description: A robotic dog F.O.E. that patrols in a straight line, turning only at walls. It has a limited detection cone directly in front of it.
- Strategy:
- 1st Floor Stealth: The Guard Dogs on the 1st Floor are relatively easy to bypass. Observe their patrol patterns. They move predictably. Wait for them to turn their back to you, then quickly move past them. There's a section with two Guard Dogs patrolling parallel paths; time your movement to slip between them. You'll need to retrieve the Security Keycard from a chest in the northeast corner to proceed.
- 2nd Floor Pressure Plates: On the 2nd Floor, Guard Dogs are integrated into a pressure plate puzzle.
- Stepping on certain pressure plates will temporarily disable specific Guard Dogs or open new paths.
- The goal is to activate a series of plates to clear a path to the exit. One sequence involves activating a plate that disables a Guard Dog, then quickly moving to another plate that opens a gate before the first Guard Dog reactivates.
- Pay close attention to the visual cues on the floor and the F.O.E.'s status. A disabled Guard Dog will have a blue aura.
- Combat (Optional): Guard Dogs are weak to Fire and Bless attacks. Ann (Fire) and Makoto (Bless) are strong choices. They are resistant to Physical and Gun attacks. Their "Bark" ability can inflict Panic, so be prepared with Dis-Panic or Personas that can cure ailments. Defeating them can drop Scrap Metal, a common crafting material.
