Move Tutors and Move Deleter
In Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, Move Tutors and the Move Deleter are invaluable resources for customizing your Pokémon's movesets. Whether you're looking to teach powerful, otherwise unobtainable moves or simply forget an unwanted HM, knowing where to find these NPCs is crucial for any aspiring Pokémon Master.
Move Tutors: Expanding Your Pokémon's Repertoire
Move Tutors in Unova will teach your Pokémon specific moves in exchange for Shards. These Shards are found throughout the region, often hidden in the environment, received from NPCs, or dropped by wild Pokémon after battle. There are four different colors of Shards: Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green. Each Move Tutor specializes in a certain set of moves and will only accept specific Shard colors.
Location 1: Lentimas Town
The first Move Tutor you'll encounter is located in a house in Lentimas Town, just before you enter Reversal Mountain. This tutor specializes in several utility and offensive moves.
- Required Shards: Red Shards
- Notable Moves:
- Fire Punch: A powerful Fire-type physical attack. Excellent for Pokémon with high Attack.
- Ice Punch: A strong Ice-type physical attack. Great for coverage against Dragon and Ground types.
- Thunder Punch: A reliable Electric-type physical attack. Useful for Water and Flying type coverage.
- Drain Punch: A Fighting-type attack that restores HP to the user.
- Focus Punch: A very powerful Fighting-type attack, but requires a turn to charge.
- Magic Coat: Reflects status-changing moves back at the opponent.
- Snore: Only usable when asleep, but can be surprisingly effective.
- Strategy: Collect Red Shards by battling wild Pokémon in caves like Reversal Mountain or by using the Dowsing Machine in various routes.
Location 2: Humilau City
The second set of Move Tutors can be found in a house in Humilau City, the final city before the Pokémon League. This location hosts three different tutors, each accepting a different Shard type.
- Tutor 1 (Left): Accepts Blue Shards. Focuses on special attacks and support moves.

- Icy Wind: An Ice-type special attack that lowers the opponent's Speed.
- Earth Power: A powerful Ground-type special attack.
- Notable Moves:
- Tutor 2 (Middle): Accepts Yellow Shards. Specializes in status-inflicting and unique moves.

- Notable Moves:
- Strategy: Blue, Yellow, and Green Shards can be found in various locations across Unova, often requiring the Dowsing Machine. Explore routes thoroughly, especially those accessible after obtaining Surf and Waterfall.
The Move Deleter: Forgetting Unwanted Moves (Especially HMs!)
The Move Deleter is a crucial NPC who can make your Pokémon forget any move, including Hidden Machine (HM) moves. Unlike TMs, HMs cannot be forgotten through the Pokémon's summary screen, making the Move Deleter essential for optimizing your team's movesets.
- Location: The Move Deleter resides in a house in Mistralton City, near the Pokémon Center.
- Cost: Forgetting moves is completely free.
- Actionable Steps:
- Fly to Mistralton City.
- Enter the house directly to the left of the Pokémon Center.
- Speak to the old man inside.
- Select the Pokémon whose move you wish to delete.
- Choose the move you want to forget from its current moveset.
- Confirm your choice. The move will be permanently removed.
- Strategy: Don't hesitate to teach HMs to "HM slaves" (Pokémon you don't intend to use in battle) to progress through the game. Once you no longer need a specific HM for traversal, you can visit the Move Deleter to free up a move slot for a more useful battle move. This is particularly important for competitive play or when preparing for the Elite Four.
