This is one of the most important decisions you'll make early in the game! Professor Birch will offer you a choice of three Pokémon: Treecko (Grass-type), Torchic (Fire-type), or Mudkip (Water-type). Each has its own strengths and weaknesses, and will evolve into powerful Pokémon. Treecko evolves into Grovyle and then Sceptile, a fast special attacker. Torchic evolves into Combusken and then Blaziken, a strong mixed attacker with Fighting as its secondary type. Mudkip evolves into Marshtomp and then Swampert, a bulky Water/Ground type with only one weakness (Grass). Consider your preferred playstyle and the types of Pokémon you enjoy using. There's no 'wrong' choice, as all three are excellent companions throughout your journey. After selecting, you'll immediately enter a battle against the wild Pokémon chasing Professor Birch.
