Throughout your journey in the Sinnoh region, you'll encounter various opportunities to customize your Pokémon's movesets. Two crucial NPCs for this are the Move Relearner and the Move Reminder. Understanding their functions and locations is key to optimizing your team for any challenge.

The Move Relearner: Remembering Forgotten Moves

The Move Relearner is an invaluable resource for any trainer looking to fine-tune their Pokémon's abilities. This kind old man can teach your Pokémon any move it previously learned by leveling up, even if it has since forgotten that move. This is particularly useful for:

Evolved Pokémon: Often, an evolved Pokémon might miss out on a powerful move learned at an earlier level by its pre-evolution. The Move Relearner can fix this!
HM Management: If you taught a Pokémon an HM move for convenience and later want to replace it with a more battle-oriented move, you can forget the HM and then relearn a forgotten level-up move.

The Move Relearner resides in a house in Pastoria City. You can find his house in the northeastern part of the city, just north of the Great Marsh entrance. He is a portly gentleman wearing a blue shirt.

To have a Pokémon remember a move, you'll need to pay him one Heart Scale. Heart Scales are rare items, so use them wisely! Here's how to acquire them:

Underground: This is the most reliable method. Digging in the Sinnoh Underground can unearth numerous Heart Scales. Focus your digging efforts in areas with many sparkling spots.
Wild Luvdisc: While not native to Sinnoh, if you've traded for a Luvdisc, they sometimes hold Heart Scales when caught.
Pickup Ability: Pokémon with the Pickup ability (like Meowth, Aipom, or Pachirisu) have a chance to find items, including Heart Scales, after battles. The higher the Pokémon's level, the better the items it can find.

How to Use the Move Relearner:

Travel to Pastoria City.
Locate the Move Relearner's house in the northeast.
Speak to the Move Relearner. He will ask which Pokémon you want to teach a move.
Select the desired Pokémon from your party or PC.
He will then display a list of all moves that Pokémon could have learned by leveling up but currently doesn't know.
Choose the move you wish to teach.
Confirm the transaction by paying one Heart Scale.

The Move Reminder: Forgetting Unwanted Moves

While the Move Relearner helps you remember moves, the Move Reminder (also known as the Move Deleter) serves the opposite, yet equally important, function: allowing your Pokémon to forget moves. This is particularly vital for:

HM Moves: Unlike TMs, HM moves cannot be simply overwritten. The Move Reminder is the only way to remove an HM from a Pokémon's moveset. This is crucial if you want to replace an HM with a more powerful battle move or if you need to trade a Pokémon that knows an HM.
Strategic Adjustments: Sometimes, a Pokémon learns a move that you no longer find useful, and you want to open up a slot for a new TM, Egg Move, or a move from the Move Relearner.

He will then display the four moves your Pokémon currently knows.
Choose the move you wish for your Pokémon to forget.
Confirm your choice. The move will be instantly forgotten.
