The Grotesque (Standard Melee Threat)

These shambling, disfigured entities are your most common foe. While slow, their attacks can quickly whittle down your health if you're not careful.

  • Weakness: Headshots. A well-placed shot to the head with any firearm will stagger them, often leading to a one-hit kill or significantly reduced health. They are also susceptible to environmental hazards.
  • Strategy:
    1. Maintain Distance: Their primary attack is a close-range swipe. Keep them at arm's length.
    2. Pistol Precision: The Rusty .38 Revolver (found early in the Abandoned Apartment, near the collapsed bookshelf) is surprisingly effective for headshots. Aim carefully and fire when they are closing in.
    3. Melee Follow-up: If you land a headshot and they are staggered but not dead, a quick follow-up with the Iron Pipe (found in the Maintenance Corridor, leaning against a broken generator) can finish them off without expending more precious ammunition.
    4. Environmental Advantage: In areas with unstable structures or exposed wiring, lure Grotesques into these zones. For example, in the Flooded Basement, shooting the corroded electrical box will electrify the water, instantly killing any Grotesques within the current.
    5. Evasion: If ammunition is scarce, simply running past them is often a viable option, especially in wider corridors. Use the Dodge Roll (mapped to 'Shift' by default) to quickly bypass their attacks.

The Shrieker (Ranged/Area-of-Effect Threat)

Shriekers are less common but far more dangerous due to their debilitating sonic attacks. They often appear in elevated positions or behind obstacles.

  • Weakness: Exposed vocal cords. When preparing to shriek, their throat area becomes vulnerable. They are also highly sensitive to bright, sudden light.
  • Strategy:
    1. Interrupt the Scream: As soon as you hear their distinctive wind-up sound, aim for their throat. The Hunting Rifle (found in the Security Office, locked cabinet - key is in the Janitor's Closet) is ideal for this, offering high damage and accuracy at range.
    2. Flashbang Grenades: The Makeshift Flashbang (crafted using Empty Can and Sparkler, blueprints found in the Workshop) will temporarily stun and disorient Shriekers, interrupting their attack and leaving them vulnerable for a few seconds. This is crucial in tight spaces.
    3. Cover and Flank: If you cannot interrupt them, seek immediate cover. Their sonic attack can disorient you and leave you open to other enemies. Use the environment to your advantage to flank them and get a clear shot at their weakness.
    4. Prioritize: Always prioritize Shriekers over other enemies. Their ability to stun and damage from a distance makes them a primary threat that can quickly turn the tide of a fight.

The Lurker (Stealth/Ambush Threat)

These creatures are masters of concealment, often waiting in dark corners or ventilation shafts to ambush unsuspecting players. They are fast and agile.

  • Weakness: Light exposure and fire. Their sensitive eyes are easily damaged by bright light, and their thin skin is highly flammable.
  • Strategy:
    1. Environmental Awareness: Always check dark corners and listen for subtle scuttling sounds. The Handheld Lantern (found in the initial safe room) can reveal their presence before they attack.
    2. Shotgun Blast: The Pump-Action Shotgun (found in the Armory, requiring the Armory Keycard from the Overseer's Office) is devastating at close range. If a Lurker ambushes you, a quick blast will often send them reeling or kill them outright.
    3. Molotov Cocktails: The Improvised Molotov (crafted using Empty Bottle and Rag, blueprints found in the Kitchen) is incredibly effective. Throwing one into a suspected Lurker hiding spot or directly at an attacking Lurker will set them ablaze, dealing continuous damage.
    4. Backpedal and Shoot: If a Lurker latches onto you, quickly backpedal while firing your pistol. This can create enough distance to dislodge them and allow for a more precise shot.
    5. Flare Decoy: The Emergency Flare (found in various supply crates) can be thrown to temporarily distract Lurkers, drawing their attention away and allowing you to escape or reposition for an attack.
