Early Game Essentials (Apartment & Initial Streets)

Your first few hours in Post Trauma are critical for establishing a basic survival kit. Focus on securing reliable light sources and a foundational melee weapon.

  • Flashlight (Standard):
    • Location: Found early in the game, typically in the apartment bathroom cabinet or on a bedside table in the main bedroom.
    • Strategy: Conserve battery life by using it sparingly. Flick it on only when absolutely necessary to navigate dark areas or identify immediate threats. Remember, sustained use drains power quickly, leaving you vulnerable.
  • Crowbar:
    • Location: Often located in the apartment's utility closet or leaning against a wall in the initial street areas, near a broken-down vehicle.
    • Strategy: Your primary melee weapon for the early game. It offers decent reach and damage against weaker, slower enemies. Practice timing your swings to stun and follow up with additional hits. Avoid engaging multiple enemies simultaneously with this weapon.
  • Small Medkit (x2-3):
    • Location: Scattered throughout the apartment complex (e.g., kitchen counter, under a sink) and in abandoned vehicles on the streets.
    • Strategy: These are your immediate health recovery items. Use them when your health drops below 50% or after a significant encounter. Prioritize using them when you have a moment of safety, as healing animations can leave you exposed.

Mid-Game Survival Kit (Hospital & Sewers)

As you delve deeper into the city's decay, threats become more frequent and aggressive. This phase requires a shift towards more potent offensive and defensive tools.

  • Revolver (.38 Caliber):
    • Location: The Revolver is a crucial find. It's typically located in the Hospital's Security Office, often locked behind a simple puzzle involving a keycard found in the nearby Staff Lounge, or in a hidden compartment within the Sewer Maintenance Room.
    • Strategy: Your first reliable ranged weapon. Conserve ammunition for tougher enemies or when you need to create distance. Aim for headshots on humanoid creatures to maximize damage. The slow reload time necessitates careful engagement.
  • Hunting Knife:
    • Location: Can be found in the Hospital's abandoned cafeteria kitchen, often stuck in a cutting board, or in a toolbox within the Sewer pumping station.
    • Strategy: A faster, more precise melee option than the Crowbar. Excellent for quick stabs and finishing off downed enemies. Use it when you're low on ammo or need to conserve resources against less threatening foes.
  • Large Medkit (x1-2):
    • Location: Scarce but vital. Look for these in the Hospital's operating theaters or in secured storage rooms within the deeper sewer sections.
    • Strategy: These restore a significant portion of your health. Save them for critical situations or boss encounters. Never waste a Large Medkit on minor damage.
  • Flare Gun:
    • Location: A powerful utility item, often found in the Hospital's rooftop access area or in a derelict construction site within the sewers.
    • Strategy: Primarily used for stunning groups of enemies or temporarily warding off particularly aggressive creatures. The bright light can also reveal hidden paths or items in extremely dark environments. Ammunition is very limited, so use it wisely.

Late Game & Boss Encounters (Research Facility & Beyond)

The final stages of Post Trauma demand your absolute best. Optimize your loadout for maximum damage output and sustained survival against the game's most formidable challenges.

  • Shotgun (Pump-Action):
    • Location: The Shotgun is a late-game powerhouse, typically found in the Research Facility's Armory, often requiring a security bypass code found in a nearby scientist's office, or in a heavily guarded containment unit.
    • Strategy: Devastating at close range. Ideal for clearing groups of weaker enemies or inflicting massive damage on larger, more resilient foes. Always aim for center mass or weak points. Reloading is slow, so ensure you have cover or distance.
  • Military-Grade Flashlight:
    • Location: A significant upgrade, often found in the Research Facility's command center or a hidden laboratory.
    • Strategy: Offers a wider, brighter beam and significantly longer battery life. Essential for navigating the darkest, most complex areas without constant battery anxiety.
  • Painkillers (x3-5):
    • Location: Found in medical lockers throughout the Research Facility, especially in staff quarters or infirmaries.
    • Strategy: These provide a temporary boost to your damage resistance and can slightly increase movement speed. Use them strategically before anticipated tough fights or when you need to push through an area under heavy fire. Do not rely on them as a primary healing source.
  • Explosive Charges (x1-2):
    • Location: Extremely rare, typically found in secure storage within the Research Facility, often requiring a specific keycard or access code.
    • Strategy: Your ultimate damage dealer. Reserve these for boss encounters or to clear pathways blocked by large groups of high-health enemies. Place them carefully and detonate from a safe distance.
