Basic Combat & Enemy Encounters
While Post Trauma isn't a traditional action game, understanding how to navigate and survive encounters with the horrors lurking within its decaying walls is paramount. Combat is less about direct confrontation and more about resource management, environmental awareness, and strategic evasion. This section will equip you with the foundational knowledge to face the game's threats head-on, or, more often, to cleverly bypass them.

Core Combat Principles
Survival in Post Trauma hinges on smart decision-making rather than brute force. Keep these principles in mind during every encounter:
- Evasion Over Confrontation: Your primary goal should almost always be to avoid direct combat. Resources are scarce, and even basic enemies can pose a significant threat. Learn enemy patrol patterns and sensory capabilities to slip past undetected.
- Resource Management is Key: Ammunition, healing items, and unique weapon uses are extremely limited. Conserve them for critical situations where evasion is not an option. Every shot, every flare, every bandage counts.
- Environmental Awareness: The environment is both your enemy and your ally. Look for opportunities to use it to your advantage:
- Line of Sight: Break line of sight by ducking into side rooms, behind furniture, or through doorways. Many enemies rely heavily on visual detection.
- Distraction: Certain items can be thrown to create noise, drawing enemies away from your path.
- Chokepoints: Narrow corridors or doorways can be used to funnel enemies, making them easier to evade or temporarily incapacitate.
- Listen Carefully: Audio cues are your best friend. Groans, shrieks, scuttling sounds, and even the subtle creaking of floorboards can indicate an enemy's presence or proximity. Wearing headphones is highly recommended to enhance your situational awareness.
- Stamina Management: Sprinting and melee attacks consume stamina. Monitor your stamina bar carefully, as running out during an escape or a crucial melee strike can be fatal. Allow it to regenerate before engaging or fleeing.
- Aim for Weak Points (When Applicable): For enemies that must be engaged, always aim for their perceived weak points, typically the head. This maximizes your limited damage output and conserves resources.
- Save Often: Utilize the Typewriter Save Points whenever you encounter them. This will prevent significant loss of progress during challenging encounters. The first save point is located in the Janitor's Closet near the main lobby in Chapter 1.
