Endings Guide

Welcome, survivor! Unlike some RPGs with branching narratives, Resident Evil 2 (Remake) offers a more linear story progression with two primary "endings" that are determined by which character's scenario you complete first, and then the subsequent "2nd Run" for the other character. There are also subtle variations based on your performance, but the core narrative conclusion is tied to these two main paths. This guide will detail how to achieve each primary ending.

Understanding the A and B Scenarios

The game is structured around two main campaigns: Leon's Story and Claire's Story. Each character has an 'A' scenario (their first playthrough) and a 'B' scenario (their second playthrough, often called the "2nd Run"). To see the full narrative and true ending, you must complete both an 'A' and a 'B' scenario.

Ending 1: Leon A / Claire B (True Ending for Leon's Perspective)

This ending provides the most complete resolution if you start with Leon. It concludes with Leon, Claire, and Sherry escaping Raccoon City. To achieve this:

  1. Complete Leon's Story (A Scenario):
    • Start a new game and select Leon S. Kennedy.
    • Progress through the Raccoon Police Department, sewers, and NEST laboratory.
    • Defeat the final boss, Super Tyrant (Mr. X's mutated form), in the NEST.
    • After the boss fight, you'll trigger a cutscene where Ada Wong assists Leon.
    • Board the escape train.
  2. Complete Claire's Story (B Scenario / 2nd Run):
    • After completing Leon's A Scenario, select "New Game (2nd Run)" from the main menu.
    • Choose Claire Redfield.
    • Claire's 2nd Run starts in a slightly different location and features remixed item placements, stronger enemies, and additional story beats that intertwine with Leon's A Scenario.
    • Navigate through the RPD, sewers, and NEST.
    • Defeat the final boss, G (Stage 5), on the escape train.
    • After defeating G, Claire will rescue Sherry Birkin.
    • The train will then depart, with Leon, Claire, and Sherry escaping together. This is considered the "True Ending" as it shows both protagonists' successful escape.

Ending 2: Claire A / Leon B (True Ending for Claire's Perspective)

This ending provides the most complete resolution if you start with Claire. It also concludes with Leon, Claire, and Sherry escaping Raccoon City, but with a slightly different narrative emphasis on Claire's journey. To achieve this:

  1. Complete Claire's Story (A Scenario):
    • Start a new game and select Claire Redfield.
    • Progress through the Raccoon Police Department, sewers, and NEST laboratory.
    • Defeat the final boss, G (Stage 4), in the NEST.
    • After the boss fight, you'll trigger a cutscene where Sherry assists Claire.
    • Board the escape train.
  2. Complete Leon's Story (B Scenario / 2nd Run):
    • After completing Claire's A Scenario, select "New Game (2nd Run)" from the main menu.
    • Choose Leon S. Kennedy.
    • Similar to Claire's 2nd Run, Leon's 2nd Run features remixed item placements, stronger enemies, and additional story beats that intertwine with Claire's A Scenario.
    • Navigate through the RPD, sewers, and NEST.
    • Defeat the final boss, Super Tyrant (Mr. X's mutated form), on the escape train.
    • After defeating Super Tyrant, Ada Wong will assist Leon.
    • The train will then depart, with Leon, Claire, and Sherry escaping together. This is also considered the "True Ending" and is functionally identical to the Leon A / Claire B ending in terms of the final escape, just experienced from a different narrative sequence.

Key Differences Between A and B Scenarios

  • Starting Locations: B Scenarios often begin in different areas of the RPD.
  • Item Placement: Key items, weapons, and ammunition are frequently in different locations.
  • Enemy Spawns: More challenging enemy placements and increased numbers of tougher foes.
  • Boss Fights: While the final bosses are character-specific, their forms and arenas can differ slightly between A and B runs. For example, G (Stage 4) for Claire A vs. G (Stage 5) for Claire B.
  • Story Beats: B Scenarios fill in gaps and show events happening concurrently with the A Scenario, providing a more complete picture of the Raccoon City incident.

To experience the full story and unlock all achievements related to the main campaign, it is highly recommended to complete both an 'A' and a 'B' scenario for each character.
