Weapon Upgrades

Unlike some other Resident Evil titles, Code: Veronica X doesn't feature a traditional "upgrade" system where you spend currency or resources to incrementally improve weapon stats. Instead, weapon upgrades come in the form of finding superior versions of existing firearms or acquiring unique attachments that fundamentally alter a weapon's performance. Mastering these enhancements is crucial for surviving the increasingly dangerous encounters on Rockfort Island and beyond.

Claire's Enhancements

As Claire Redfield, your primary focus for enhanced firepower will revolve around your starting handgun and a powerful secondary weapon.

Handgun (Claire) -> Custom Handgun

Claire begins her harrowing journey with a standard 9mm Handgun. While reliable for early encounters, it quickly becomes outclassed. The key to improving it lies in finding the Handgun Parts.

  • Location: The Handgun Parts are found in the Private Residence, specifically within the Study. This is the room with the large globe and the portrait of Alfred Ashford. You'll access this area after obtaining the Eagle Plate and solving the music box puzzle in the Palace.
  • Acquisition Steps:
    1. Progress through the game until you reach the Private Residence.
    2. Enter the Study.
    3. Examine the desk on the right side of the room. The Handgun Parts will be prominently displayed there.
    4. Combine the Handgun Parts with Claire's Handgun in your inventory.
  • Effect: Combining these parts transforms your standard Handgun into the Custom Handgun. This upgrade significantly increases its firing rate and slightly boosts its damage output, making it much more effective against zombies and even some weaker B.O.W.s. It's a vital upgrade that will conserve precious shotgun and grenade rounds.

Bow Gun -> Explosive Arrows

The Bow Gun is a versatile weapon, but its standard arrows are often insufficient for tougher enemies. The real power comes from its explosive ammunition.

  • Location: The Explosive Arrows are found in the Weapon Supply Room, located on the 2nd floor of the Military Training Facility. You'll need the "Bow Gun" to use them, which you acquire earlier in the game from the same facility.
  • Acquisition Steps:
    1. After gaining access to the Military Training Facility, navigate to the 2nd floor.
    2. Locate the Weapon Supply Room (often marked on your map).
    3. Inside, you'll find a box containing the Explosive Arrows.
    4. Simply pick them up. They will automatically be loaded into your Bow Gun if it's equipped, or stored as a separate ammo type.
  • Effect: Explosive Arrows deal massive area-of-effect damage, making them incredibly useful against groups of zombies, Hunters, and even the Bandersnatch. They are particularly effective against bosses like the Gulp Worm. Use them sparingly, as they are a finite and powerful resource.

Chris's Enhancements

When you take control of Chris Redfield, your upgrade path focuses on maximizing the potential of a classic Resident Evil weapon.

Shotgun -> Assault Shotgun

Chris starts with a standard Shotgun, a reliable close-quarters weapon. However, the Shotgun Parts turn it into a beast.

  • Location: The Shotgun Parts are found in the Weapon Storage Room, located in the Antarctic Base. This room is accessible after you've restored power to the base and navigated through several flooded areas.
  • Acquisition Steps:
    1. As Chris, progress to the Antarctic Base.
    2. Restore power to the base by solving the power panel puzzle.
    3. Navigate to the Weapon Storage Room. This room often requires a specific key or card found nearby.
    4. Inside, you'll find the Shotgun Parts on a shelf or table.
    5. Combine the Shotgun Parts with Chris's Shotgun in your inventory.
  • Effect: The Assault Shotgun boasts a significantly increased firing rate and a larger magazine capacity compared to the standard Shotgun. This makes it devastatingly effective against multiple enemies and bosses, allowing for rapid, high-damage bursts. It's arguably one of the best weapons in Chris's arsenal for general combat.

General Upgrade Tips

  • Prioritize Early: Obtaining weapon upgrades as soon as possible is always recommended. The Custom Handgun for Claire and the Assault Shotgun for Chris will drastically improve your combat efficiency and resource management throughout their respective sections.
  • Inventory Management: Remember that combining parts takes up an inventory slot temporarily. Plan your inventory carefully, especially when you know you're heading to an upgrade location.
  • Ammo Conservation: Even with upgraded weapons, ammunition is always a concern in Code: Veronica X. Use your enhanced firepower strategically, especially the more powerful ammunition types like Explosive Arrows.
