Reach the Laboratory
The journey to the hospital's hidden laboratory is fraught with peril, requiring careful exploration, puzzle-solving, and resource management. This section will guide you step-by-step through the process, from restoring power to confronting the monstrous Leech Man.
Phase 1: Restoring Power and Initial Exploration
Your primary objective upon entering the hospital is to restore power to critical areas, particularly the elevator leading to the basement. This involves navigating the dimly lit administrative offices and patient rooms on the upper floors.
- Start in the Main Lobby: From your starting point, head towards the reception desk. Look for a Hospital Map (often found on the desk or a nearby wall) to orient yourself.
- Access the Administrative Offices (2F): Take the stairs or the initial working elevator (if available) to the second floor. The administrative offices are typically located off a central corridor.
- Locate the Power Room Key: Within the administrative offices, search thoroughly. One of the desks or filing cabinets will contain the Power Room Key. Be wary of Zombies lurking in these cramped spaces.
- Find the Power Room (1F/B1): The Power Room is usually located on the first floor or in the basement's initial accessible area. Use the Power Room Key to enter.
- Restore Power: Inside the Power Room, you'll find a series of circuit breakers or a main power switch. Interact with the console to restore power to the hospital's main systems, including the elevator. This might trigger a brief power surge and attract nearby enemies.
Phase 2: Elevator Access and Basement Exploration
With power restored, your next goal is to reach the basement laboratory. The elevator is your primary means of descent, but it often requires an additional component.
- Return to the Main Lobby Elevator: Head back to the main elevator shaft you passed earlier.
- Obtain the Elevator Fuse/Maintenance Key:
- If a Fuse is Needed: The Elevator Fuse is commonly found in the Maintenance Room (often on the 1st or 2nd floor, marked on your map) or a staff locker room. It's usually a small, glowing item.
- If a Maintenance Key is Needed: The Maintenance Key is typically located in a doctor's office on the 2nd or 3rd floor, sometimes hidden in a desk drawer or a cabinet.
- Repair the Elevator: Approach the elevator control panel. Use the Elevator Fuse or Maintenance Key to repair it. Once repaired, select the "B1" or "Basement" option.
- Navigate the Basement Corridors: The basement is a labyrinth of service tunnels and research facilities. Expect increased enemy density, including Lickers and possibly mutated creatures. Follow the signs pointing towards "Laboratory" or "Research Wing."
- Unlock the Laboratory Entrance: The laboratory entrance itself might be locked, requiring a Lab Keycard or a simple door code.
- Lab Keycard: Often found in a security office or a researcher's personal locker within the basement.
- Door Code: Look for notes, whiteboards, or computer terminals in nearby offices for clues to a 4-digit code.
Phase 3: The Laboratory and Leech Man Encounter
Upon entering the laboratory, you'll find research notes detailing the virus and potential countermeasures. This is also where you'll face the scenario's primary boss.

Boss Battle: The Leech Man
The Leech Man (also known as William Birkin G-Type or a similar variant depending on the scenario) is a formidable foe composed of a mass of leeches, often with a human-like core. He is highly resilient and possesses powerful melee attacks.
Recommended Loadout:
- Shotgun: Excellent for close-range damage and staggering.
- Grenade Launcher (Flame Rounds): Flame rounds are particularly effective against the Leech Man due to his organic, parasitic nature.
- Magnum/High-Powered Handgun: For consistent damage from a distance.
- Healing Items: At least 3-4 First Aid Sprays or Herbs (Mixed).
- Defense Items: Defense Enhancers or Blue Herbs can be invaluable.
Strategy:
- Maintain Distance (Initially): The Leech Man's melee attacks are devastating. Try to keep a medium distance, using your Shotgun or Magnum.
- Target the Core: While the entire mass of leeches is vulnerable, direct hits to the central, more human-like core (if visible) often deal increased damage.
- Exploit Fire Weakness: If you have Grenade Launcher Flame Rounds, this is the time to use them. A few direct hits can cause significant damage and temporarily stun him.
- Dodge and Weave: The Leech Man has a charging attack and a sweeping arm attack. Learn his patterns and use the laboratory's environment (tables, equipment) to create distance or break line of sight for a moment.
- Conserve Ammo (Wisely): While you need to be aggressive, don't waste shots. Ensure each bullet or round connects. If you run low on primary weapon ammo, switch to your most powerful handgun.
- Heal Proactively: Don't wait until your health is critical. Use healing items when your health bar is yellow to avoid being one-shotted by a powerful attack.
- Environmental Hazards (if applicable): Some laboratory environments might have explosive barrels or electrical panels. If present, lure the Leech Man near them and detonate/activate them for extra damage.
Once the Leech Man is defeated, the laboratory is yours to explore for critical story items, research notes, and potentially a final escape route.
