The Resident Evil UI is minimalist but provides all the necessary information for survival. Keeping an eye on your health and inventory is critical.

Health Status:
- FINE (Green): Full health.
- CAUTION (Yellow): Moderate damage, but still able to move normally.
- DANGER (Orange/Red): Severely injured, movement may be slower, and you're vulnerable. Heal immediately!
- POISON (Purple): Indicates you've been poisoned. Requires a Blue Herb or Serum to cure.
Inventory Screen:
Accessed via the Triangle/Y button. This is where you manage your items. Each character has a limited number of inventory slots (Chris has 6, Jill has 8). Items can be used, examined, or combined. Pay close attention to item descriptions, as they often contain clues for puzzles. You'll frequently need to visit Item Boxes to store excess items.
Map Screen:
Accessed via the L1/LB button (if you have the map for the current area). The map shows your current location, unexplored areas, locked doors, and sometimes even key item locations. Use it frequently to plan your route and avoid getting lost in the mansion's labyrinthine corridors.
