Legacy Items & Account Linking

Manage Rocket League legacy items and link accounts for cross-platform progression. Preserve your collection and progress.

6.12. Legacy Items & Account Linking

For long-time Rocket League players, the transition to the free-to-play model and the introduction of cross-platform progression brought about changes regarding legacy items and account linking. Understanding how your old items are handled and how to link your accounts is essential for preserving your progress and cosmetic collection across different platforms.

When Rocket League went free-to-play, Psyonix implemented a system to ensure that players who had purchased the game or earned items through gameplay before the transition would retain their progress and items. This involved linking your accounts and identifying your "primary" account.

What are Legacy Items?

Legacy items are the cosmetic items (like car bodies, decals, wheels, etc.) that players acquired before the free-to-play update on July 21, 2020. These items are often marked with a "Legacy" tag in your inventory. They are tied to the account that originally earned or purchased them.

Account Linking for Cross-Platform Progression:

To access your items and progress on any platform, you need to link your accounts to a single Epic Games account. This is the foundation of cross-platform play and progression.

  1. Create or Log In to an Epic Games Account: If you don't have one, create an Epic Games account. If you do, ensure you know your login details.
  2. Link Your Platform Accounts: Go to the Epic Games website (or through the Rocket League game client) and navigate to the account linking section. You will need to link your PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch Online, and/or Steam accounts to your Epic Games account.
  3. Desate a Primary Platform: During the account linking process, you will be prompted to choose a "primary" platform. This is the platform whose inventory and progress will be merged and prioritized. Choose this carefully, as it cannot be changed later. Your primary platform's inventory will be available on all linked platforms.
  4. Item Merge: Once linked and a primary platform is desated, your inventories from all linked platforms will be merged into one. This means you can use items earned on Xbox on your PlayStation or PC, for example.

Important Considerations for Legacy Items:

  • Item Availability: Most legacy items are still available and usable. Some items that were previously only obtainable through purchase might have been converted into Blueprints or made available in the Item Shop.
  • Trade Restrictions: Items traded on one platform might have trade restrictions on other platforms. For example, items traded on PlayStation may not be tradable on PC. Always check the trade restrictions for specific items.
  • Rocket Pass Items: Items earned through Rocket Pass before the free-to-play update are also considered legacy items and are tied to the account that earned them.
  • Platform-Specific Items: Some items might remain platform-specific due to licensing agreements (e.g., certain console-exclusive items).

Troubleshooting Account Linking:

If you encounter issues with account linking or item merging:

  • Double-Check Credentials: Ensure you are using the correct login details for all your accounts.
  • Unlink and Relink: In some cases, unlinking and relinking your platform accounts can resolve syncing issues.
  • Contact Support: If problems persist, contact Epic Games Support or Psyonix Support for assistance.

By correctly linking your accounts and understanding the status of your legacy items, you can ensure a seamless experience with your entire Rocket League collection across all your gaming platforms.
