Smoke Grenade Guide
Smoke grenades are indispensable tactical tools in Rogue Company, providing crucial cover for advancing, retreating, or repositioning. Their primary function is to obscure vision, creating temporary blind spots that can be exploited for strategic advantage. Deploying a smoke grenade effectively can allow your team to push an objective like the bomb site in Demolition, cross open areas under fire, or disengage from a losing firefight. The visual obstruction is significant, making it difficult for enemies to track targets within the smoke cloud.
The strategic deployment of smoke grenades is vital. For example, if your team is attempting to plant the bomb on High Castle, throwing a smoke grenade to cover the approach to the site can prevent the defending team from easily picking off your teammates. Similarly, if you find yourself isolated and under heavy fire, a well-placed smoke can provide the cover needed to escape to safety or regroup with your team. Some Rogues, like Talon, can utilize smoke to mask their movements while deploying their gadgets. Understanding the duration of the smoke is also important; a standard smoke grenade lasts for approximately 15 seconds.
While smoke grenades don't deal damage, their impact on the flow of combat is immense. They can be used defensively to block sightlines on chokepoints or offensively to mask a flank. A common mistake is to deploy smoke too late, rendering it ineffective for the intended maneuver. Conversely, deploying it too early might mean its effect has dissipated by the time your team is ready to push. Experimenting with different throwing arcs to cover specific angles or create diversions is a key skill. Remember that while smoke obscures vision, it does not block movement or sound, so be prepared for enemies to push through or flank your smoke screen.
