The Architect and The Unskinned
This challenging dual boss encounter takes place in the Salt Alkymancery, specifically in the area accessible after defeating the Untouched Inquisitor. Be prepared for a fight that demands spatial awareness and quick reactions.
Reaching the Boss Arena
- From the Untouched Inquisitor's Sanctuary, head right and down the ladder.
- Continue right, navigating past the various alchemist enemies and traps.
- You'll eventually reach a large, open chamber with a distinctive architectural style. This is the boss arena.
- Consider placing a Stone Leader or Stone Merchant at the Untouched Inquisitor's Sanctuary for easy resupply before the fight.
Boss Overview
The Architect and The Unskinned are a tag-team boss. The Architect is a magic-user who remains airborne, while The Unskinned is a hulking melee brute on the ground. The key to this fight is managing both threats simultaneously.
The Architect (Magic User)
- Attacks:
- Orb Barrage: Fires multiple slow-moving magic orbs that track the player. These can be rolled through or blocked.
- Lightning Bolt: Summons a quick, vertical lightning strike. Watch for the visual cue (a vertical line of light) on the ground.
- Arcane Beam: A sustained beam of magic that sweeps across the arena. This attack has a clear wind-up, giving you time to get behind The Unskinned or roll through it.
- Strategy: The Architect is generally less aggressive than The Unskinned. Focus on dodging its attacks while dealing with its partner. When The Unskinned is down, or if you have a clear opening, use ranged attacks or jump attacks to damage The Architect.
The Unskinned (Melee Brute)
- Attacks:
- Ground Slam: A powerful overhead slam that creates a shockwave. Roll away from the impact point.
- Charge: Charges across the arena, attempting to trample the player. Roll through it or jump over it.
- Swipe Combo: A series of wide, sweeping attacks. Block or roll through these.
- Strategy: The Unskinned is your primary target. Its attacks are telegraphed, but hit hard. Stay mobile, get in a few hits after it finishes a combo or charge, and then retreat.
General Strategy & Tips
- Prioritize The Unskinned: While both are dangerous, The Unskinned is the more immediate threat due to its aggressive melee attacks. Focus your damage on it first to reduce the chaos in the arena.
- Utilize the Environment: The arena is relatively open. Use the space to your advantage to dodge attacks and create distance when needed.
- Stamina Management: This is crucial. Avoid over-committing to attacks, as you'll need stamina for dodging and blocking.
- Healing Opportunities: Look for brief windows after The Unskinned finishes a long attack combo or when The Architect is casting a slow spell to use your healing items.
- Damage Types: Both bosses are susceptible to various damage types. Consider using weapons enchanted with Arcane or Fire for extra damage if you have them.
- Rings: Equipping rings that boost stamina regeneration (e.g., Stone Ring) or provide elemental resistance can be beneficial.
- Charms: The Mossy Charm for poison resistance (if you're using poison weapons) or the Bandaged Charm for increased healing effectiveness are good choices.
- Phase Two: Once The Unskinned is defeated, The Architect becomes much easier. It will continue its magic attacks, but without the melee pressure, you can focus entirely on dodging and counter-attacking. Ranged attacks are particularly effective in this phase.
Recommended Equipment
- Armor: Medium or heavy armor for damage reduction, but ensure you can still fast roll.
- Weapons: A fast weapon for quick hits on The Unskinned, and a ranged option (bow, crossbow, or magic) for The Architect.
- Shields: A shield with good elemental resistance (especially arcane) can help mitigate The Architect's attacks.
- Consumables: Bring plenty of Healing Potions and consider using Flasks of Fire or Flasks of Arcane to buff your weapon.
By following these strategies and maintaining patience, you will eventually overcome The Architect and The Unskinned, paving your way deeper into the mysteries of the Salt Alkymancery.
