Trophy Guide
Welcome, weary traveler, to the definitive guide for unlocking every achievement in Salt and Sanctuary! This section will provide detailed strategies, locations, and tips to ensure you don't miss a single trophy on your journey through the cursed island. Be prepared for a challenging but ultimately rewarding experience.
General Tips for Trophy Hunting
- Explore Thoroughly: Many trophies are tied to hidden areas, optional bosses, or specific items. Leave no stone unturned.
- Multiple Playthroughs: Some trophies are mutually exclusive or require different character builds. Plan for at least two full playthroughs (one for each ending, and potentially a third for specific covenant-related trophies if you miss them).
- Backup Saves: Especially useful for the ending trophies or if you mess up a specific questline. On PS4, you can upload your save data to the cloud or a USB drive.
- Stat Management: Pay attention to your stats. For example, some weapon-specific trophies will be much easier with a character built around that weapon type.
- Don't Rush: Salt and Sanctuary is a game about patience. Take your time, learn enemy patterns, and enjoy the exploration.
Story-Related Trophies (Unmissable)
These trophies are earned simply by progressing through the main story and defeating the primary bosses. You cannot miss these.
- The Unspeakable Deep: Defeat The Unspeakable Deep. This is the very first boss you encounter on the ship. Don't worry if you die here; it's designed to be a tough fight for a new character, and the game continues regardless.
- Kraeken Wyrm: Defeat the Kraeken Wyrm. Found in the Festering Banquet.
- The Queen of Smiles: Defeat The Queen of Smiles. Located in the Village of Smiles.
- Mad Alchemist: Defeat the Mad Alchemist. Found in the Mire of Stench.
- The False Jester: Defeat The False Jester. Encountered in the Watching Woods.
- The Tree of Men: Defeat The Tree of Men. Located in the Dome of the Forgotten.
- The Disemboweled Husk: Defeat The Disemboweled Husk. Found in the Crypt of Dead Gods.
- The Third Lamb: Defeat The Third Lamb. Encountered in the Ziggurat of Dust.
- The Untouched Inquisitor: Defeat The Untouched Inquisitor. Located in the Hagers Cavern.
- The Coveted: Defeat The Coveted. Found in the Pitchwoods.
- The Bloodless Prince: Defeat The Bloodless Prince. Encountered in the Saltfin Aqueduct.
- The Nameless God: Defeat The Nameless God. The final boss of the game, found in the Cathedral of Dusk.
Ending Trophies (Mutually Exclusive)
There are two main endings, each with its own trophy. You will need at least two playthroughs or a well-timed save backup to earn both.
- The Drowned Tome: Achieve the Drowned Tome ending.
- After defeating The Nameless God, proceed to the right.
- Interact with the "Stone Altar" and choose to "Ascend".
- This will trigger the Drowned Tome ending and unlock the trophy.
- The Saltborn: Achieve the Saltborn ending.
- Before defeating The Nameless God, you must acquire the Black Pearl. This item is found in the Crypt of Dead Gods, behind a hidden wall near the Disemboweled Husk boss arena. You'll need the Dart Brand to reach it.
- After defeating The Nameless God, proceed to the right.
- Interact with the "Stone Altar" and choose to "Descend" (this option only appears if you have the Black Pearl).
- This will trigger the Saltborn ending and unlock the trophy.
Covenant Trophies
These trophies require you to join and reach Devotion Rank 7 with each of the seven covenants. This is a significant grind and often requires multiple playthroughs or careful planning, as some covenants are mutually exclusive or difficult to access later in the game.
- The Iron Ones: Reach Devotion Rank 7 with The Iron Ones.
- Location: The Stone Roots. The Sanctuary is found early in the game.
- Offerings: Iron Vials (dropped by various armored enemies, especially in The Festering Banquet and Castle of Storms).
- The Devara's Light: Reach Devotion Rank 7 with Devara's Light.
- Location: Village of Smiles. The Sanctuary is found after defeating The Queen of Smiles.
- Offerings: Goldenwine (dropped by various light-aligned enemies, common in Village of Smiles and Watching Woods).
- The House of Splendor: Reach Devotion Rank 7 with The House of Splendor.
- Location: Bandit's Pass. This Sanctuary is hidden off the main path. From the Village of Smiles, head left and down into Bandit's Pass. Look for a hidden passage near the bottom.
- Offerings: Shimmering Pearls (dropped by various human enemies and some bosses).
- The Stone Roots: Reach Devotion Rank 7 with The Stone Roots.
- Location: Mire of Stench. The Sanctuary is found after defeating the Mad Alchemist.
- Offerings: Stone Charms (dropped by various plant and beast-like enemies in the Mire of Stench and Watching Woods).
- The Keepers of Fire and Sky: Reach Devotion Rank 7 with The Keepers of Fire and Sky.
- Location: Dome of the Forgotten. The Sanctuary is found after defeating The Tree of Men.
- Offerings: Brands of the Fire and Sky (dropped by various fire and lightning-based enemies, common in Dome of the Forgotten and Ziggurat of Dust).
- The Betrayer's Covenant: Reach Devotion Rank 7 with The Betrayer's Covenant.
- Location: Hager's Cavern. This is a secret covenant. From the Hager's Cavern Sanctuary, head left and drop down. You'll find a hidden path leading to the Betrayer's Sanctuary.
- Offerings: Saltless (dropped by various enemies in Hager's Cavern and Pitchwoods, also a rare drop from bosses). This is often the most difficult covenant to max out due to the rarity of Saltless. Consider farming specific enemies or using a Stone Guide to increase item drop rates.
- The Order of the Betrayer: Reach Devotion Rank 7 with The Order of the Betrayer.
- Location: The Pitchwoods. The Sanctuary is found after defeating The Coveted.
- Offerings: Black Salt (dropped by various dark-aligned enemies, common in Pitchwoods and Saltfin Aqueduct).
Miscellaneous Trophies
- The Blackest Vault: Open the Blackest Vault.
- This requires the Vault of the Betrayer key. This key is a reward for reaching Devotion Rank 7 with The Betrayer's Covenant.
- The Blackest Vault itself is located in the Crypt of Dead Gods, near the entrance to the Disemboweled Husk boss arena.
- Master of the Blade: Max out a weapon skill tree.
- Simply invest enough Salt and Black Pearls into a single weapon skill tree (e.g., Swords, Axes, Daggers) until it reaches its maximum level. This is easily achieved during a normal playthrough.
- Adept of the Arcane: Max out a magic skill tree.
- Similar to "Master of the Blade," invest enough Salt and Black Pearls into a single magic skill tree (e.g., Arcane, Divine, Dark) until it reaches its maximum level.
- The Saltborn Warrior: Reach Level 100.
- This will naturally occur during your first playthrough if you explore thoroughly and defeat all bosses. If you're struggling, consider farming Salt from high-level enemies in later areas like the Pitchwoods or Saltfin Aqueduct.
- The Saltborn Master: Reach Level 200.
- This will likely require a New Game+ playthrough or extensive farming. Focus on areas with high Salt drops and use items like the Stone Guide to boost your gains.
- All Bosses: Defeat all optional and main story bosses.
- This includes all the story-related bosses listed above, plus the following optional bosses:
- The Kraeken Cyclops: Found in the Castle of Storms.
- The Witch of the Lake: Found in the Cran's Pass.
- Murdiella Mal: Found in the Siam Lake.
- The Carsejaw the Traitor: Found in the Mire of Stench (hidden area).
- The Split Swordsman: Found in the Red Hall of Cages.
- The Untouched Inquisitor: While technically a main boss, it's easy to miss the path to him if you don't explore Hager's Cavern thoroughly.
- This includes all the story-related bosses listed above, plus the following optional bosses:
- The Blacksmith's Apprentice: Upgrade a weapon to +7.
- Visit a Blacksmith (found in any Sanctuary after placing a Stone Blacksmith). You'll need various upgrade materials (e.g., Iron, Steel, Gold, Shimmering Pearl, Black Pearl) and a significant amount of Salt. Focus on a weapon you use frequently.
- The Alchemist's Apprentice: Upgrade a weapon to +7 with an elemental imbue.
- Similar to "The Blacksmith's Apprentice," but you'll also need a specific elemental material (e.g., Flame Ore, Lightning Ore, Holy Ore, Poison Ore, Arcane Ore) to imbue the weapon. These materials are found throughout the world or dropped by specific enemies.
- The Collector: Obtain all Brands.
- Brands are permanent movement upgrades. You will acquire these naturally as you progress through the game.
- Vertigo Brand: Allows wall jumping. Found in the Mire of Stench.
- Hardlight Brand: Creates platforms. Found in the Dome of the Forgotten.
- Dart Brand: Allows dashing in mid-air. Found in the Crypt of Dead Gods.
- Shadowflip Brand: Allows a double jump. Found in the Pitchwoods.
- Brands are permanent movement upgrades. You will acquire these naturally as you progress through the game.
