This section details the location and acquisition method for every character-specific upgrade, ensuring you don't miss a single crucial item. These upgrades are permanent and significantly enhance your abilities, making subsequent playthroughs and challenges much smoother.
Sonic the Hedgehog
- Light Speed Attack: This essential upgrade allows Sonic to home in on a line of enemies or rings, destroying them or collecting them instantly.
- Location: Station Square, in the alleyway near the Burger Shop.
- Walkthrough: From the main fountain area in Station Square, head towards the Burger Shop. Look for an alleyway to the left of the shop's entrance. The Light Speed Attack upgrade is located within this alley, often guarded by a few enemies. Simply approach and collect it.
- Ancient Light: An enhancement to the Light Speed Attack, allowing for a charged, more powerful version.
- Location: Mystic Ruins, near the entrance to the Red Mountain stage.
- Walkthrough: Travel to the Mystic Ruins. Head towards the cave entrance that leads to the Red Mountain stage. Before entering the cave, explore the surrounding area. The Ancient Light is typically found on a small, elevated platform or hidden behind some foliage in this vicinity. You might need to use a spring or a well-timed jump to reach it.
Miles "Tails" Prower
- Rhythm Badge: This badge allows Tails to perform a continuous, rapid tail swipe attack, useful for clearing groups of enemies and breaking certain obstacles.
- Location: Station Square, inside the Casino Area.
- Walkthrough: Enter the Casino Area in Station Square. The Rhythm Badge is located on a high ledge or platform within the main casino room. You'll need to utilize Tails' flying ability to reach this elevated position. Look for a path of rings or a series of platforms that lead upwards.
- Jet Anklet: Increases Tails' flying speed and duration, making exploration and combat much more efficient.
- Location: Mystic Ruins, near the waterfall leading to the Ice Cap stage.
- Walkthrough: From the main Mystic Ruins area, head towards the large waterfall. The path to the Ice Cap stage is usually behind or near this waterfall. The Jet Anklet is often hidden on a small island or a hard-to-reach ledge in the water or directly behind the waterfall itself. Use Tails' flight to navigate the watery area and locate it.
Knuckles the Echidna
- Shovel Claw: Enables Knuckles to dig into soft ground, uncovering hidden items, switches, and pathways. Essential for his treasure hunting stages.
- Location: Station Square, in the sewers accessible from the main street.
- Walkthrough: From the main street in Station Square (where the hotel is), look for an open manhole or a grate leading into the sewers. Descend into the sewer system. The Shovel Claw is usually found in a relatively open area within the sewers, often near a small pool of water or a junction.
- Fighting Gloves: Enhances Knuckles' punching power, allowing him to break tougher objects and defeat enemies more quickly.
- Location: Mystic Ruins, within the jungle area leading to the Lost World stage.
- Walkthrough: Navigate to the jungle section of the Mystic Ruins that leads to the Lost World stage. The Fighting Gloves are typically hidden within the dense foliage or on a raised platform in this area. You might need to climb walls or glide across gaps to reach its precise location. Look carefully behind trees and under ledges.
Amy Rose
- Warrior Feather: Improves Amy's Hammer Attack, allowing for a more powerful and wider-reaching swing.
- Location: Station Square, on the rooftop of the Burger Shop.
- Walkthrough: From the main street in Station Square, locate the Burger Shop. You'll need to find a way to get onto its roof. This usually involves using a spring or a series of platforms and ledges around the building. Once on the rooftop, the Warrior Feather will be clearly visible.
- Long Hammer: Extends the reach of Amy's Piko Piko Hammer, making it easier to hit distant enemies and activate switches.
- Location: Mystic Ruins, near the entrance to the Final Egg stage.
- Walkthrough: Head to the Mystic Ruins and locate the entrance to the Final Egg stage (the large, futuristic-looking structure). The Long Hammer is often found on a small, elevated platform or a ledge directly outside or very close to the entrance of Final Egg. You may need to use a spring or jump from a higher point to reach it.
Big the Cat
- Power Rod: Increases the casting distance of Big's fishing rod, allowing him to reach fish in further-off waters.
- Location: Station Square, by the fishing pond near the hotel.
- Walkthrough: In Station Square, locate the small fishing pond situated near the hotel. The Power Rod is typically found directly on the bank of this pond, often near some reeds or a small rock formation. Simply walk up to it and collect it.
- Life Ring: Enhances Big's swimming ability, making him faster and more agile underwater.
- Location: Mystic Ruins, in the river leading to the Emerald Coast exit.
- Walkthrough: Travel to the Mystic Ruins and head towards the river that flows out to the Emerald Coast. The Life Ring is located underwater within this river. You'll need to dive in and search the riverbed. It's often found near a bend in the river or close to a submerged rock.
E-102 Gamma
- Laser Blaster: Increases the power and range of Gamma's lock-on laser, making it more effective against multiple targets.
- Location: Station Square, on the platform above the train station entrance.
- Walkthrough: From the main Station Square area, locate the entrance to the train station. Above this entrance, there's a high platform or ledge. You'll need to use Gamma's hover ability to reach this elevated position. The Laser Blaster is clearly visible once you're up there.
- Jet Booster: Enhances Gamma's hovering ability, allowing for longer and faster flight.
- Location: Mystic Ruins, on a high cliff overlooking the waterfall.
- Walkthrough: In the Mystic Ruins, head towards the large waterfall. Look for a very high cliff or plateau that overlooks the waterfall area. The Jet Booster is located on this elevated point. You'll need to utilize Gamma's hovering and possibly some strategic jumps from nearby ledges to reach this challenging spot.
