Rival Relationships:

  • Friendly: If you consistently perform well and don't aggressively bump a rival, they might become friendly. Friendly rivals are less likely to bump you and might even cheer you on.
  • Neutral: The default state.
  • Hostile: If you frequently bump a rival, especially if you cause them to bail, they will become hostile. Hostile rivals will actively try to bump you, cut you off, and generally make your life harder. This can be a challenge but also adds to the fun.

Taunting:

Pressing the D-Pad (PS2) during gameplay will make your character perform a taunt. Taunting has several effects:

  • Fills Tricky Meter: Successfully performing a taunt (without bailing) gives a small boost to your Tricky meter.
  • Provokes Rivals: Taunting a rival, especially if they are behind you, will often make them more aggressive and hostile. This can be a risky move, but sometimes it's worth it for the challenge or to get a rise out of them.
  • Style Points: Taunting adds to your overall style and can be a fun way to interact with the game world.

Use taunts strategically. If you're far ahead in a race, a quick taunt can fill your meter for a boost. If a rival is hot on your heels, taunting them might provoke a dangerous response. Managing these relationships adds depth to the World Circuit.
