Feats & Combat Specializations
Feats are a cornerstone of character development in Knights of the Old Republic, providing passive bonuses and active abilities that define your combat style and overall effectiveness. Choosing the right feats can dramatically enhance your character's strengths and mitigate weaknesses.
Feats are acquired as your character levels up, with new feats becoming available at specific level intervals. The selection of feats is heavily influenced by your character's class and chosen attributes. For example, a Soldier class will have access to a wider range of combat-focused feats, while a Jedi class will unlock Force-related feats.
Combat Feats are essential for any character focused on direct confrontation. These include feats like:
- Power Attack: Increases melee damage at the cost of accuracy.
- Flurry: Allows for multiple attacks per round, increasing overall damage output.
- Two-Weapon Fighting: Reduces the penalties associated with wielding two weapons.
- Precise Shot: Improves accuracy with ranged weapons.
- Critical Strike: Increases the chance of landing a critical hit.
Force Feats are exclusive to Force-sensitive characters and amplify their connection to the Force. These include:
- Force Sensitivity: Increases the number of Force powers you can learn.
- Force Focus: Improves the effectiveness of your Force powers.
- Force Speed: Allows for faster movement and extra attacks.
- Force Wave: A powerful crowd-control ability that pushes enemies back.
Skill Feats enhance your proficiency with various skills, making them more effective. Examples include:
- Skill Focus (e.g., Computer Use, Persuade): Grants a bonus to a specific skill.
- Toughness: Increases your maximum Vitality points.
Choosing the right feats:
- Al with Class: Select feats that complement your character's base class and chosen Jedi class. A Soldier should focus on combat feats, while a Jedi Consular should prioritize Force feats.
- Attribute Synergy: Ensure your attribute scores support your feat choices. For example, Two-Weapon Fighting benefits from high Dexterity.
- Playstyle: Consider how you want to play. Do you prefer a melee brawler, a ranged sharpshooter, or a powerful Force user? Choose feats that enhance that playstyle.
- Synergy: Look for feats that work well together. For instance, combining Flurry with Power Attack can lead to devastating damage.
By carefully selecting feats as you level up, you can create a truly unique and powerful character capable of dominating any encounter in the galaxy.
