Item Rarity & Value
In Knights of the Old Republic, items come in various rarities, influencing their power, usefulness, and market value. Understanding these distinctions is key to effective looting and trading.
The rarity of an item in KOTOR is generally indicated by its color and its statistical properties. Rarer items typically offer superior bonuses to attributes, combat effectiveness, or resistances, making them highly sought after. This rarity also directly impacts how much you can sell them for to vendors.
Item rarity tiers and characteristics:
- Common (White/Grey): These are the most basic items, often found early in the game or as drops from weaker enemies. They offer minimal bonuses and have low sell values. Examples include basic medpacks, low-tier blasters, and standard armor pieces.
- Uncommon (Green): A step up from common items, offering slightly better stats or a minor special effect. They are more valuable both in terms of use and sale price.
- Rare (Blue): These items provide sificant stat bonuses or potent special effects. They are crucial for optimizing your character's build and are valuable commodities.
- Unique/Legendary (Purple/Gold - often quest-related): These are typically unique items tied to specific quests or powerful enemies. They often possess powerful, unique abilities or exceptionally high stats, making them invaluable. Their sell value can be astronomical, but they are rarely sold due to their importance.
When looting, always check the rarity of an item. If it's a common item you don't need, consider selling it to a vendor to fund the purchase of better gear or components. Rare and unique items should be carefully considered for equipping your party or kept for their sificant bonuses.
The value of an item is directly proportional to its rarity and its statistical benefit. High-rarity items with strong bonuses are the most valuable, both for personal use and for trading.
