Pixels are Starbound's primary currency. Efficiently earning them is vital for purchasing upgrades, items, and blueprints. Good methods include selling excess resources, cooked food, and captured monsters. Colony building is an excellent passive income source. Running missions for NPCs, especially those on the Outpost, also provides a steady stream of Pixels. Later in the game, you can craft a Pixel Compressor to store large amounts of Pixels in compact blocks, preventing loss upon death.
