Mission Objective:

Your primary goal is to navigate the perilous Hunting Grounds, overcome its numerous challenges, defeat the Floran leader, Nuru, and retrieve the Floran Artifact.

Recommended Preparation:

Before venturing into the Hunting Grounds, ensure you are adequately equipped. This mission is designed for players with Tier 2 (Iron/Tungsten) or higher equipment. While possible with lesser gear, it will be significantly more challenging.

  • Armor: Aim for at least Iron or Tungsten armor sets. Higher tiers like Steel or Titanium will provide a more comfortable experience. Prioritize sets that offer good defense and energy regeneration.
  • Weapons:
    • Melee: A strong broadsword or axe is highly recommended for dealing with the numerous close-quarters Floran warriors. Consider weapons with wide swings or area-of-effect capabilities.
    • Ranged: A reliable assault rifle, pistol, or bow is crucial for engaging airborne enemies (Floran Hunters on platforms) and safely triggering traps from a distance. Look for weapons with good accuracy and damage per shot.
    • Utility: A healing item (Bandages, Salve, or Medical Kits) is essential. Consider bringing a few stacks. A flashlight or headlamp can be helpful in darker sections, though most of the mission is well-lit.
  • Consumables: Bring a stack of healing items. Food items that provide buffs (e.g., health regeneration, energy regeneration) can also be beneficial.
  • Techs:
    • Dash: Invaluable for dodging attacks and quickly traversing gaps.
    • Double Jump/Multi-Jump: Essential for navigating the verticality of the jungle and avoiding ground-based hazards.
    • Morphball: Useful for squeezing through tight passages and avoiding some traps.

Environmental Hazards & Enemy Types:

The Floran Hunting Grounds are a deadly maze of natural and artificial threats:

  • Spike Pits: These are ubiquitous. Always look before you leap. Many can be seen, but some are hidden by foliage. Use your ranged weapon to trigger pressure plates or destroy blocks from a safe distance.
  • Pressure Plate Traps: Often trigger spikes, falling blocks, or even activate Floran turrets. Shoot them from afar or use Dash to quickly cross them.
  • Floran Turrets: Stationary turrets that fire projectiles. They have a limited firing arc. Use cover or destroy them quickly.
  • Floran Warriors: The most common enemy. They wield spears, broadswords, and bows. They are aggressive and will charge you. Prioritize ranged attackers first.
  • Floran Hunters: Often found on elevated platforms or in trees, these Florans use bows or ranged energy weapons. Take them out with your ranged weapon before they can pepper you with arrows.
  • Floran Beasts: Larger, more resilient Floran creatures that charge and deal significant damage. Dodge their charges and counter-attack.
  • Poisonous Plants: Some plants release damaging gas when approached or struck. Avoid them or destroy them from a distance.

Walkthrough: Navigating the Hunting Grounds

The mission is largely linear, but offers some branching paths that often lead to optional loot or more challenging encounters. Always proceed with caution.

  1. Initial Entry & Jungle Path:
    • You'll beam down into a dense jungle. Immediately be wary of Floran Warriors patrolling the ground and Floran Hunters perched on elevated platforms.
    • The path will lead you through several clearings with spike pits. Look for pressure plates on the ground that activate these. Use your ranged weapon to shoot the pressure plates from a safe distance, or use Dash to quickly cross them.
    • You'll encounter your first few Floran Turrets. Use cover or destroy them with sustained fire.
    • Keep an eye out for hidden passages behind waterfalls or dense foliage; these often contain minor loot caches.
  2. The Trap Gauntlet:
    • This section is characterized by a series of increasingly complex traps. Expect combinations of spike pits, falling blocks, and Floran turrets.
    • Key Strategy: Patience is key. Observe the trap patterns before attempting to cross. Use your ranged weapon to trigger traps or destroy obstacles.
    • You'll often find Floran Warriors guarding these trap-filled areas, attempting to push you into hazards. Prioritize them.
    • There's a notable section with a long corridor of constantly retracting and extending spikes. Time your movements carefully or use a Dash tech to pass through.
  3. The Floran Village Outskirts:
    • As you progress, the environment will transition into a more structured, albeit still wild, Floran settlement. You'll see Floran huts and more concentrated enemy patrols.
    • Expect more Floran Beasts in this area. They are durable; focus fire and dodge their charges.
    • You'll encounter a mini-boss encounter here: a larger, armored Floran warrior wielding a powerful spear. This warrior has more health and deals higher damage. Focus on dodging its lunges and counter-attacking during its recovery frames. It often drops some advanced healing items or a rare weapon.
  4. The Leader's Lair Approach:
    • After the village, you'll enter a more fortified area, often marked by larger Floran structures and totems. This indicates you're nearing Nuru.
    • This section typically features a final gauntlet of enemies and traps, often including multiple Floran turrets and elite Floran warriors. Clear the path methodically.
    • Look for a large, ornate Floran gate or entrance – this signifies the boss arena.

Boss Battle: Nuru, The Floran Leader

Nuru is a formidable opponent, combining aggressive melee attacks with ranged capabilities. Understanding her attack patterns is crucial for victory.

Nuru's Abilities:
  • Spear Lunge: Nuru will charge forward with her spear, dealing high damage. This attack is telegraphed by a brief wind-up.
  • Spear Throw: She will occasionally throw her spear, which travels in a straight line. Easy to dodge if you're moving.
  • Ground Slam (AoE): Nuru will leap into the air and slam her spear into the ground, creating a small area-of-effect shockwave. Jump or Dash away to avoid.
  • Summon Minions: At certain health thresholds (typically 75% and 50%), Nuru will summon 2-3 regular Floran Warriors to assist her.
  • Enraged Mode: Below 25% health, Nuru's attacks become faster and she may use her abilities more frequently.
Strategy for Defeating Nuru:
  1. Maintain Distance & Dodge: Nuru is primarily a melee threat. Use your ranged weapon to chip away at her health while staying out of her immediate striking range. Focus on dodging her spear lunges and ground slams.
  2. Prioritize Minions: When Nuru summons Floran Warriors, immediately switch targets and eliminate them. They can quickly overwhelm you if left unchecked, making it harder to focus on Nuru.
  3. Exploit Openings: After Nuru performs a Spear Lunge or Ground Slam, there's a brief window where she is vulnerable. Use this opportunity to land a few powerful melee hits or a burst of ranged fire.
  4. Utilize Techs:
    • Dash: Excellent for quickly evading her charges and getting behind her.
    • Double Jump/Multi-Jump: Useful for avoiding the Ground Slam's shockwave and repositioning.
  5. Healing: Don't be afraid to use your healing items. It's better to heal proactively than to risk being defeated. Try to heal when Nuru is recovering from an attack or when her minions are dealt with.
  6. Environmental Awareness: The arena is usually a relatively open space. Use the full area to your advantage for dodging.

Rewards:

Upon defeating Nuru, she will drop the crucial Floran Artifact, which is required to progress the main questline. In addition to the artifact, Nuru often drops:

  • Unique Floran Weapon: A powerful spear or broadsword with unique stats or elemental damage.
  • Rare Crafting Materials: Such as Solarium Star or other high-tier ores.
  • Large amount of Pixels: For your efforts.

Congratulations, you have successfully navigated the Floran Hunting Grounds and secured the Floran Artifact! Return to the Ark to continue your journey.
