Fertilizers
Fertilizers are essential for boosting crop yields and quality in Stardew Valley. They can be crafted or purchased, and each type offers distinct benefits, from increasing the chance of higher-quality crops to speeding up growth or preventing weeds. Strategic use of fertilizers can significantly improve your farm's profitability.
There are three main types of fertilizers available in Stardew Valley: Basic Fertilizer, Quality Fertilizer, and Speed-Gro. Each can be crafted or purchased from Pierre's General Store or the Oasis. Basic Fertilizer, crafted with 1 Sap, 1 Bug Meat, and 1 Fiber, increases the chance of harvesting higher-quality crops (Silver or Gold quality). Quality Fertilizer, crafted with 1 Bat Guano, 1 Bone Dust, and 1 Fiber, doubles the chance of harvesting Silver or Gold quality crops. Speed-Gro, crafted with 1 Sugar, 1 Fairy Dust, and 1 Fiber, reduces the time it takes for crops to grow. There's also Deluxe Speed-Gro, crafted with 1 Sugar, 1 Cactus Fruit, and 1 Fiber, which provides an even greater growth speed boost. The most potent growth enhancer is Hyper Speed-Gro, crafted with 1 Sugar, 1 Void Essence, and 1 Fiber, offering the fastest growth rate. Fertilizers are applied to tilled soil before planting seeds. They remain on the soil until the crop is harvested, meaning you only need to apply them once per crop cycle. Some fertilizers, like Quality Fertilizer, can even increase the chance of Iridium quality crops under specific conditions. fertilizers do not affect the growth time of fruit trees or forageable items. Additionally, some crops, like Ancient Fruit or Starfruit, are already high-value and may not benefit as much from Quality Fertilizer as other crops. Experimenting with different fertilizers on various crops is key to maximizing your farm's output and profit. For instance, using Speed-Gro on fast-growing crops like Parsnips or Kale can lead to multiple harvests within a single season, while Quality Fertilizer is best used on high-value crops like Blueberries or Cranberries.
