Complete walkthrough for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, covering the initial setup, Tiamat boss fight, tutorial, and getting started in the hub.
Walkthrough:
- Initial Setup: Upon starting, you'll be prompted to select your language, brightness, and graphics mode (Resolution or Performance). Performance mode is recommended for older PS4 models. These settings can be changed later in the options menu.
- Difficulty Selection: Choose from three initial difficulties: Story (for a narrative focus or easier gameplay, with Casual mode available), Action (for combat enthusiasts), and Hard (for a significant challenge). An additional difficulty is unlocked for New Game Plus (NG+), which is the only one tied to achievements. Higher difficulties offer better rewards and tougher enemies. Casual mode provides gameplay assists. Difficulty can be adjusted at any time.
- Tiamat Mini-Boss: Immediately after the opening cutscenes, you'll face Tiamat. There's no tutorial here. Controls (PS4/5): R1 to attack, R2 for a spinning attack, L1 to guard, D-pad for ally support or healing (5 uses), X to evade. Ally and player health are on the left; stamina is at the bottom. Avoid Tiamat's tail whips and laser attacks. Get close and attack, focusing on depleting its Stamina (yellow gauge) rather than HP (blue gauge). Once stamina is depleted, Tiamat will be downed, allowing for an instant kill with the Circle button.
- Combat Tutorial: After the Tiamat fight and subsequent scenes, you'll enter the main tutorial. Note that the game does not pause when accessing the main menu unless you open the system settings. Pause the game using the touchpad. Approach the red orb to learn basic combat mechanics. After completing the tutorial, access the blue portal to replay any lessons before exiting.
- Getting Started in the Hub: Following more cutscenes, you'll regain control in the castle. Check your inventory, stats, and read new tips. Speak to NPCs and exit through the back door. You'll then be dropped onto the map, which serves as the hub menu for non-mission gameplay.
- Mission Selection: From the hub, select missions to embark on. After completing a mission, you return to the hub to choose the next. Familiarize yourself with job trees and battle settings (refer to specific guide sections for details). You can also talk to NPCs in the
