Post-Game Challenges
Congratulations, Seafarer! You've navigated the treacherous currents and uncovered the mysteries of the Sunken Lands. But your journey doesn't end with the final boss. Sword of the Sea offers a wealth of post-game content designed to test your mastery of the Waverider and your combat prowess. Prepare for new trials, hidden treasures, and the ultimate challenge: the Sunken King's Gauntlet.
The Lost Shrines of the Ancients
After completing the main story, a new quest marker will appear on your map, leading you to the Whispering Isles, located far to the west of the Sunken Citadel. Here, you'll discover the first of five Lost Shrines. Each shrine presents a unique environmental puzzle or combat encounter, culminating in a powerful reward.
- Shrine of the Zephyr: Found on the highest peak of the Whispering Isles. This shrine requires precise Waverider control and advanced aerial maneuvers. Navigate a series of wind tunnels and shifting platforms.
- Reward: Zephyr's Embrace (Legendary Waverider Upgrade) - Significantly increases air control and allows for a temporary burst of speed during aerial tricks.
- Shrine of the Deep: Located within the Abyssal Trench, south of the Coral Gardens. This shrine is a deep-sea exploration challenge, requiring the Abyssal Lantern (obtained during the main story) to illuminate hidden passages and avoid crushing currents.
- Reward: Triton's Scale (Legendary Armor Piece) - Grants increased defense against aquatic enemy attacks and extends underwater breath capacity.
- Shrine of the Ember: Situated deep within the volcanic caverns of the Ashfall Wastes, accessible only after the lava flows have receded (post-story event). This shrine features intense combat encounters against fire-attuned enemies and environmental hazards.
- Reward: Phoenix Blade (Legendary Sword) - Deals significant fire damage and has a chance to ignite enemies.
- Shrine of the Verdant: Hidden within the overgrown ruins of the Forgotten Grove, east of the Verdant Spire. This shrine is a complex platforming puzzle, utilizing ancient plant mechanisms and requiring careful timing.
- Reward: Grove Keeper's Amulet (Legendary Accessory) - Slowly regenerates health over time and increases the effectiveness of healing items.
- Shrine of the Void: The most elusive shrine, found within a pocket dimension accessible from the highest point of the Skyward Peaks. Look for a shimmering portal that only appears at dawn. This shrine is a gauntlet of all enemy types encountered throughout the game, culminating in a unique mini-boss.
- Reward: Voidwalker's Sigil (Mythic Accessory) - Grants a small chance to dodge incoming attacks and increases critical hit chance.
The Sunken King's Gauntlet
Once you have discovered and completed all five Lost Shrines, the true ultimate challenge of Sword of the Sea will unlock: The Sunken King's Gauntlet. This brutal trial is accessed from the central chamber of the Sunken Citadel, where the final boss was defeated. A new glowing portal will now be present.
The Gauntlet is a series of increasingly difficult combat arenas, each with unique modifiers and enemy compositions. There are 10 stages in total, and you must complete them all in one continuous run. Dying at any point will send you back to the beginning.
- Stage 1-3: Tidal Waves & Coral Guardians: Focus on crowd control and environmental awareness. Utilize your Zephyr's Embrace to quickly reposition and avoid large AoE attacks from the Coral Guardians.
- Stage 4-6: Abyssal Horrors & Volcanic Sentinels: These stages introduce tougher, more aggressive enemies. The Phoenix Blade is highly effective against the Volcanic Sentinels. Prioritize dodging the Abyssal Horrors' grab attacks.
- Stage 7-9: Ancient Constructs & Shadow Weavers: These stages are designed to test your defensive capabilities. The Triton's Scale and Grove Keeper's Amulet will be invaluable for survivability. Focus on breaking the Constructs' shields and interrupting the Shadow Weavers' channeling spells.
- Stage 10: The Sunken King's Echo: The final stage pits you against a significantly empowered version of the Sunken King. This fight features new attack patterns, increased health, and a more aggressive AI.
- Strategy: The key to victory here is patience and knowing when to strike. The Voidwalker's Sigil can be a lifesaver with its dodge chance. Focus on parrying his trident attacks to create openings, and use your most powerful sword abilities (like the Phoenix Blade's ignited strike) during these vulnerable windows. Be prepared for a multi-phase battle with environmental changes.
Reward for Completing the Gauntlet: Upon successfully conquering the Sunken King's Gauntlet, you will be granted the ultimate title: "Master of the Tides". Additionally, you will receive the Crown of the Deep (Mythic Headgear), which provides a substantial boost to all stats and unlocks a unique cosmetic aura around your character, signifying your unparalleled achievement.
Good luck, Seafarer. The ocean awaits your legend!
