BUGS:

Troubleshoot common System Shock bugs like sound card errors, "Could not load palette", and mouse calibration issues. Learn fixes for the CYB.CFG file.

Sound Cards: To fix sound card issues, edit the 'CYB.CFG' file. The most common problem is an incorrect sound card base address. The file expects the address in decimal, not hexadecimal. For example, address 220H is actually 544.

"Could not load palette" Error: This error message indicates you do not have enough buffers and/or files available to be opened simultaneously in your 'autoexec.bat' file. Change 'Buffers' to 30 and 'Files' to 40.

"Don't salt the fries" Message: This message can also relate to insufficient 'Files' and 'Buffers' settings in your 'autoexec.bat' (set 'Buffers = 30' and 'Files = 40'). It could also indicate a problem with your sound card or video card. Check the CYB.CFG file to ensure it has the proper defaults for your system.

SMARTDRV Usage: If using SMARTDRV, use the "C" option to disable the write-back cache, which may prevent frequent lock-ups.

Parovski E-mail: You may receive an E-mail from Parovski after she is already dead.

"Military Level Cyberspace Lock" Doors: The "Military Level Cyberspace Lock" doors on level 8 will never open. This is a known bug and was intended to be fixed in the CD-ROM release.

Map Messages: If you receive a "Cannot place message" error when trying to put messages on the map (minimap (the small circular map in the bottom-left corner of your screen)), try deleting a previous message and exiting map mode. Sometimes this fixes the issue, allowing you to place more messages, but it is not guaranteed.

Mouse Calibration: Mouse calibration may un-calibrate when reloading save games, causing you to drift backwards even without touching the mouse. To fix this, quit the game back to DOS and restart.
