In Tales from the Borderlands, your choices in dialogue and quick-time events directly shape the narrative. Unlike the shooter installments, this game focuses on storytelling, with player decisions influencing how characters react and how events unfold. Some choices require immediate responses before a timer runs out, while others allow for more deliberation.

The game features two main protagonists, Rhys and Fiona, whose personalities clash but whose circumstances force them to cooperate. Every decision made and every word spoken is remembered by other characters and can affect future events. The game is divided into five episodes, each with its own release date, and the events are narrated by Rhys and Fiona about a year after they occurred.
