Objective 3: Eliminate Tempest Dynasty Outpost

This objective marks a significant step in your GDF campaign, as you'll finally be able to leverage the newly introduced vehicle production capabilities. While basic infantry can still play a role, a combined arms approach utilizing Scorpion Buggies and potentially Rhino APCs will be far more efficient and effective in dismantling the Tempest Dynasty outpost.

Recommended Force Composition & Preparation

Before launching your assault, ensure your base is secure and you have a robust production pipeline for both infantry and vehicles. The Tempest Dynasty outpost, while not heavily fortified, will still pose a threat to an uncoordinated attack.

  • Infantry Core:
    • 3-4 Riflemen Squads: These remain your bread and butter for engaging enemy infantry, garrisoning structures, and providing basic anti-structure damage. Focus fire on high-priority targets.
    • 1-2 Medic Squads: Crucial for sustaining your infantry. Keep them behind your front lines, but close enough to heal damaged units quickly. Their healing aura can turn the tide in prolonged engagements.
  • Vehicle Vanguard:
    • 3-4 Scorpion Buggies: These light, fast attack vehicles are your primary damage dealers against both enemy infantry and structures. Their speed allows for rapid redeployment and flanking maneuvers. Prioritize their production from the Vehicle Bay.
    • 1-2 Rhino APCs (Optional but Recommended): While not strictly necessary for this outpost, a Rhino APC can provide invaluable transport and protection for your Riflemen, especially when pushing into heavily defended areas. They can also soak up significant damage, acting as a mobile shield. Consider loading a Rifleman squad into each APC for immediate deployment upon arrival.
  • Base Defense:
    • 1-2 Watchtowers: Position these near your base's main entrance or any vulnerable flanks to deter early Tempest Dynasty probes. While you'll be on the offensive, a secure base prevents costly diversions.
    • Supply Depot: Ensure you have a steady income of resources. You'll be producing multiple units, and a strong economy is key to a sustained push.

Strategic Walkthrough: Dismantling the Outpost

The Tempest Dynasty outpost is typically located to the north or northeast of your starting position. It will consist of a few basic defensive structures, such as small turrets or bunkers, and several infantry squads, often including basic Tempest Dynasty Grunts and potentially a few specialized units like Grenadiers.

  1. Initial Scouting & Approach (Combined Arms):
    • Group your Scorpion Buggies together and send them slightly ahead of your infantry. Their speed allows for quick reconnaissance and harassment.
    • Keep your Riflemen and Medics moving behind the Buggies, maintaining a safe distance but ready to engage. If you opted for Rhino APCs, have them transport your Riflemen.
    • As you approach the outpost, you'll likely encounter a small patrol or a forward defensive position. Use your Scorpion Buggies to quickly eliminate these initial threats. Their high damage output against infantry is very effective.
  2. Engaging Outer Defenses:
    • The outpost will typically have 1-2 small defensive turrets or bunkers. Prioritize these with your Scorpion Buggies. Their mobility allows them to circle and fire, minimizing incoming damage.
    • Simultaneously, use your Riflemen to engage any enemy infantry that emerge to defend the structures. Focus fire to eliminate them quickly, preventing them from damaging your vehicles.
    • Pitfall to Avoid: Do not send your Riflemen directly into the line of fire of defensive turrets without vehicle support. They will be quickly overwhelmed.
  3. Pushing into the Core:
    • Once the outer defenses are neutralized, advance your entire force into the outpost. Keep your Scorpion Buggies in the lead, followed by your Riflemen and Medics.
    • The core of the outpost will contain a few production or resource structures and additional infantry. Use your Scorpion Buggies to target these structures, while your Riflemen engage any remaining enemy infantry.
    • Key Target: Look for any Tempest Dynasty Barracks or light vehicle production facilities. Destroying these will prevent reinforcements from being produced.
    • Medic Management: Constantly monitor the health of your Riflemen and Scorpion Buggies. Pull back damaged units to allow your Medics to heal them. Medics can heal vehicles, but at a slower rate than infantry, so try to keep your Buggies from taking excessive damage.
  4. Eliminating Remaining Resistance:
    • Systematically clear the outpost, destroying all Tempest Dynasty structures and eliminating all enemy units.
    • Use your Scorpion Buggies to quickly chase down any retreating infantry or to destroy any remaining light structures.
    • Once the last enemy unit is destroyed and all key structures are demolished, the objective will be complete.

Post-Objective Considerations

After successfully eliminating the Tempest Dynasty outpost, take a moment to consolidate your forces. Repair any damaged vehicles and heal your infantry. This victory will likely open up new areas of the map or trigger the next mission objective, so being prepared for the next phase of the GDF campaign is crucial.

  • Resource Collection: Look for any resource nodes or pickups within the cleared outpost area. The Tempest Dynasty often leaves behind small caches.
  • Map Expansion: The elimination of the outpost will typically reveal more of the map, potentially showing new resource locations or enemy positions.
  • Unit Replenishment: Return to your base and replenish any lost units, especially Scorpion Buggies, as they will be vital for future engagements.

By effectively integrating your new Scorpion Buggies and potentially Rhino APCs into your strategy, you'll find this objective significantly easier and more efficient than relying solely on basic infantry. This mission serves as an excellent introduction to the power of combined arms tactics in Tempest Rising.
