This guide covers various cheats and secrets for different versions of Tetris, including Tetris Plus, Tetris DX, original Tetris, and Tetris (Tengen).
Tetris Plus (Game Boy)
Level Select: Complete Stage 100 (Atlantis World Stage 20). Then, select Puzzle, followed by Continue. Your continued game will display "Stage Clear." During a Puzzle game, pause and press B to access level select, allowing you to play any level from 001-100.
Tetris DX (Color Game Boy)
- Chalkboard Screen Saver: 1. On the first demo, press SELECT. A fish screen saver will appear instead of the demo. Close it by pressing A. 2. On the next demo, press A. A confetti screen saver will appear. Close it by pressing B. 3. On the last demo, press B. This code can take a while.
- Confetti Screen Saver: Press Start after the demo begins to get the Confetti/Nintendo Logo Screen Saver, a nice graphics demonstration of the Game Boy Color's capabilities.
- Continue a One-Player Game: If you get tired during a game, press START to pause, then switch off the power. When you turn the system back on, you will see a "CONTINUE?" screen and resume from where you left off.
- Fish Screen Saver: When the main screen appears, wait for the demo to start, then press A to cancel it. The demo will be replaced by fish swimming on the screen.
- Move the Blocks Up: In Tetris DX, there's a bug. When any piece other than a straight bar or a block is falling, hold LEFT (even against the wall) and rapidly press A. The piece will move back up. Do the same on the right side by holding RIGHT and pressing B.
- No Preview: To play a harder game without the next piece preview, press SELECT while playing. Repeat to show the pieces again.
- Quick Restart: To return to the beginning screen at any time, hold START, SELECT, A, and B simultaneously.
Tetris (Nintendo Entertainment System)
- Free Points: Start a new game and watch the demo. If the computer gets a Tetris (screen blinks), press Start to exit the demo. You will receive credit for the computer's Tetris when your game begins.
- Warp 10 Levels: Hold A while selecting a level to start 10 levels ahead of your chosen one.
Tetris (Tengen) (Nintendo Entertainment System)
- Block Transformation: Pause the game, then press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A. A long red block will replace the current block at the top of the screen.
