Perks & Special Abilities (from Quests/Items)

Beyond the core skills and attributes, Oblivion offers a wealth of unique perks and special abilities that can be acquired through completing quests, obtaining powerful artifacts, or even through specific character choices. These abilities can dramatically alter your playstyle, providing powerful advantages in combat, exploration, or social interactions, and often define a character's unique strengths.

Many of Oblivion's most potent abilities are tied to its extensive questlines. The Mages Guild, for instance, grants access to powerful spells and ranks that come with inherent benefits. Similarly, the Fighters Guild might offer combat-focused abilities, while the Thieves Guild could provide bonuses to stealth and lockpicking. Daedric Princes often bestow unique artifacts upon their followers, each imbued with powerful enchantments or special abilities that can be used to devastating effect.

These special abilities can manifest in various forms. Some might be passive bonuses, such as increased resistance to magic or a constant regeneration of Magicka. Others are active abilities that can be triggered, like a powerful area-of-effect spell, a temporary invisibility, or a charm that influences NPCs. The Knights of the Nine DLC also introduces divine blessings that grant unique powers related to the Nine Divines.

Examples of perks and special abilities:

  • Guild Ranks: Mages Guild, Fighters Guild, Thieves Guild, and Dark Brotherhood ranks often grant unique perks.
  • Daedric Artifacts: Powerful items with unique active or passive abilities.
  • Quest Rewards: Specific quests may grant permanent abilities or powerful items.
  • Racial Abilities: Each race starts with unique innate abilities.
  • Disease/Vampirism: Can grant new abilities but also drawbacks.

Carefully consider which quests to pursue and which artifacts to seek out, as these can sificantly shape your character's capabilities and the overall gameplay experience.
