Undead Enemies

The realms of Tamriel are not only threatened by Daedra and hostile mortals but also by the restless spirits of the deceased. Undead creatures are a common threat in Oblivion's dungeons, ruins, and cursed locations, posing a unique challenge to adventurers. They often possess resistances to conventional attacks and may inflict debilitating effects.

The most common types of undead you'll encounter include:

  • Zombies: Reanimated corpses, typically slow but can be numerous. They often have low resistances but can be tough to put down.
  • Skeletons: Animated skeletal remains, often found in ancient tombs and crypts. They are usually armed with rusty weapons and can be quite resilient.
  • Ghouls: More advanced undead, often possessing a paralyzing touch or disease-inflicting attacks. They are typically faster and more dangerous than zombies.
  • Liches: Powerful, ancient undead mages. Liches are formidable foes, often wielding potent magic and possessing high resistances to both physical and magical damage. They are rarely encountered but are extremely dangerous.
  • Vampires: While technically undead, vampires are a distinct enemy type with their own unique mechanics and questlines. They possess supernatural speed, strength, and often the ability to drain health or turn invisible.

Undead Resistances and Weaknesses:

Undead creatures generally share certain characteristics:

  • Resistances: Many undead are resistant to Frost damage and Poison. Some may also have a resistance to non-magical damage.
  • Weaknesses: Undead are often vulnerable to Fire damage and Turn Undead spells. Restoration magic, particularly spells desed to harm or repel undead, can be highly effective.
Undead Type Common Locations Key Characteristics Effective Tactics
Zombie Tombs, ruins, cursed areas Slow, numerous, low resistances Fire damage, Turn Undead spells, overwhelming force
Skeleton Ancient tombs, crypts Armed, resilient, common Fire damage, Turn Undead spells, focus fire
Ghoul Dungeons, cursed locations Faster, paralyzing touch, disease Fire damage, Restoration spells, quick attacks
Lich Rare, ancient ruins, powerful tombs Powerful magic, high resistances, dangerous High-level magic, enchanted weapons, exploit any weaknesses

Combat Strategies:

When facing undead, consider the following:

  • Use Fire: Enchant your weapons with fire damage or use Destruction spells.
  • Restoration Magic: Spells like 'Turn Undead' or 'Close Wounds' can be incredibly useful.
  • Holy Relics: Some unique items or Daedric artifacts may have special properties against undead.
  • Exploit Weaknesses: If a specific undead type has a known weakness, exploit it.

Be prepared for encounters with the undead, as they are a persistent threat throughout your journey in Cyrodiil.
