Light the Dragonfires

Rise through the Thieves Guild ranks in Oblivion by fencing stolen items. Progress requires increasing amounts of fenced gold to unlock new quests.

Light the Dragonfires

To advance within the Thieves Guild, you must fence stolen items, which are always highlighted in red in the game world. Your first fence, Ongar, resides in Bruma. Stolen items in your inventory are marked with a hand icon, indicating their illicit nature and the need to sell them to a fence to progress.

The Thieves Guild offers a series of quests that unlock as you fence more stolen goods. The amount of gold you need to fence increases with each quest, allowing you to rise through the guild's ranks. Here is a list of the Thieves Guild quests and their prerequisites:

Unlike other guilds, you can never be permanently expelled from the Thieves Guild. If caught stealing, you will incur a "blood price" that requires payment to either Armand or S'Krivva to be reinstated. This fee can be as high as 1,000 gold for killing someone while on a job.
