Quests & Side Activities

Oblivion offers a vast array of quests and side activities, ensuring that players always have something new to discover and engage with. From the epic main quest to the numerous guild storylines and countless smaller tasks, the world of Cyrodiil is brimming with opportunities for adventure.

Main Quest: The central narrative revolves around the assassination of Emperor Uriel Septim VII and the subsequent invasion of Tamriel by the Daedric Prince Mehrunes Dagon. Players must find the lost heir, Martin Septim, and work to close the Oblivion gates that are tearing holes in reality.

Guild Quests: These multi-part questlines allow players to join and rise through the ranks of various influential organizations:

  • Fighters Guild: Focuses on combat, monster hunting, and mercenary work.
  • Mages Guild: Involves magical research, arcane quests, and dealing with magical anomalies.
  • Thieves Guild: Centers around thievery, infiltration, and illicit dealings.
  • Dark Brotherhood: A shadowy organization of assassins, offering contracts for elimination.

Daedric Shrine Quests: Scattered across Cyrodiil are shrines dedicated to the Daedric Princes. Each shrine offers a unique quest, often with morally ambiguous choices and powerful, unique artifacts as rewards. These quests can be initiated by reaching a certain level or by stumbling upon the shrine.

Side Quests: Beyond the major questlines, numerous smaller side quests are available in towns and cities. These can range from helping a local farmer with a pest problem to investigating ancient ruins or resolving personal disputes between NPCs. Talking to people and exploring is key to discovering these.

Exploration and Dungeons:

  • Oblivion Gates: These rifts to the Deadlands are a constant threat and a source of valuable Sigil Stones. Closing them is a major part of the main quest but can also be undertaken as a side activity.
  • Dungeons and Caves: Cyrodiil is dotted with numerous dungeons, caves, bandit camps, and ancient ruins, each typically containing enemies, loot, and sometimes unique quest objectives.

Other Activities:

  • Horseback Riding: Purchasing a horse provides a faster means of travel across the vast landscape.
  • Housing: Acquiring and decorating player homes offers a place to rest, store items, and display trophies.
  • Crafting: Alchemy and Enchanting allow players to create powerful potions and magical items, respectively.

Oblivion's strength lies in its freedom. You can choose to follow the main quest, dedicate themselves to a guild, or simply wander the land, discovering the myriad of adventures that await.
