The Battle for Castle Kvatch — The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Walkthrough

Joining the Thieves Guild in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion can be initiated in a few ways, with two reliable methods. One common approach is to get arrested, which can be done by attacking a guard in the Imperial City or getting caught stealing a red-highlighted item. After choosing to go to jail and sleeping to serve your sentence (which decreases a skill point), an NPC named Myvryna Arano will seek you out and give you a Mysterious Note. This note directs you to the Garden of Dareloth, where you can meet the appropriate NPC to join the Thieves Guild.

The Thieves Guild offers a unique storyline and gameplay experience. Unlike other guilds, you can never be permanently expelled from the Thieves Guild. However, breaking rules, such as getting caught stealing or killing someone on the job, will incur a "blood price" that must be paid to Armand or S'Krivva for reinstatement. This fee can be as high as 1,000 gold for killing someone.

The Mages Guild also provides an interesting storyline, essential for mastering custom spells and enhancing spellcasting. To join, you will need to find their Guild Halls and complete their quests. These include:

  • Liberation or Apprehension?: Locate a Necromancer informant and return him to the Arcane University to become a Warlock.
  • Information at a Price: Travel to Skingrad to receive information from Count Hassildor.
  • A Plot Revealed: Travel to Bruma and discover why the Mages Guild has stopped correspondence, earning the Wizard's Fury spell and turning into a Wizard.
  • The Necromancer's Amulet: Find the Necromancer's Amulet and return it to the Arcane University.
  • The Bloodworm Helm: Find the Bloodworm Helm and return it to the Arcane University, leading to promotion to Master-Wizard.
  • Ambush: Oversee a contingent of Battlemages in their fight against the Necromancers and retrieve a unique Black Soul Gem.
  • Confront the King: Find the King of Worms and end the Necromancers' attacks on the Mages Guild, becoming an Arch-Mage.
