Skill Trainers & Training
Improving your character's skills is fundamental to success in Oblivion. Skill trainers offer a direct way to increase your proficiency in various abilities, from combat and stealth to magic and crafting. Each skill has trainers available at different levels of expertise, allowing you to gradually enhance your character's capabilities as you progress through the game and accumulate gold.
Finding the right trainers is key to efficient character development. Trainers are typically found in major cities, guild halls, and sometimes in more remote locations. Each trainer specializes in a particular skill or a set of related skills. For example, you might find a Blade trainer in the Fighters Guild or an Alchemy trainer in a market district. The cost of training increases with the trainer's level of expertise, so it's often wise to seek out lower-level trainers first and then progress to higher-level ones as your gold reserves allow.
Beyond direct training, certain items and quests can also provide temporary or permanent boosts to your skills. Skill books, scattered throughout the world, can permanently increase a skill by one point when read. Additionally, some Daedric artifacts or quest rewards might offer unique enchantments that enhance specific skills or grant new abilities. Understanding where to find these resources and how to utilize them effectively will sificantly impact your character's overall power and effectiveness in combat and exploration.
Here's a general overview of skill training:
- Expertise Levels: Trainers are categorized by their skill level (Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert, Master).
- Cost of Training: Higher-level trainers and more advanced skills will cost more gold.
- Location Diversity: Trainers can be found in cities, guild headquarters, and sometimes in wilderness locations.
- Skill Books: Collectible books that permanently increase a skill by one point upon reading.
To maximize your training, consider focusing on your primary skills first. You can train up to five times per character level. Plan your training sessions to coincide with leveling up to make the most of your attribute increases.
