While not a visible gauge like the Power or Hyper Drive, the Guard Meter is an invisible system that tracks how much an opponent has been blocking. Every time you block an attack, your invisible Guard Meter decreases. When it depletes, your guard is 'crushed,' leaving you in a vulnerable state for a short period, susceptible to a free combo. This system encourages offensive pressure and discourages passive blocking.

Understanding Guard Crush:
- Pressure: Continuously attacking a blocking opponent will eventually lead to a Guard Crush.
- Blowback Attacks (CD): These attacks deal significant Guard Meter damage and can quickly lead to a Guard Crush.
- Chip Damage: Even if you block, some special moves and Super Special Moves deal a small amount of 'chip damage' and also contribute to Guard Meter depletion.
Strategic Implications:
As an attacker, aim to apply consistent pressure and mix in Blowback Attacks to break your opponent's guard. As a defender, be aware of your Guard Meter. If you've been blocking a lot, consider using an Emergency Roll or a Guard Cancel to escape pressure before your guard is crushed. Don't rely solely on blocking; mix in evasive maneuvers and counter-attacks.
