Enemy Compendium

Welcome, brave hero, to the definitive guide on the myriad foes that stand between you and the salvation of Hyrule and Lorule! This compendium details common enemies, their behaviors, weaknesses, and the most effective strategies to dispatch them. Knowing your enemy is the first step to victory!

Overworld & Dungeon Foes (Hyrule & Lorule)

Octorok

  • Description: These classic octopus-like creatures are found in both Hyrule and Lorule, often lurking in grassy areas or shallow water. They spit rocks at Link.
  • Locations: Eastern Hyrule, Lake Hylia (Hyrule), Swamp Palace (Lorule).
  • Strategy:
    • Melee: A single swing of the Master Sword or even the basic Sword is usually enough. Approach carefully, as their rock projectiles can be surprisingly accurate.
    • Ranged: The Bow is highly effective, often defeating them in one shot. The Boomerang can stun them, allowing for an easy follow-up attack.
    • Defense: Use your Shield to deflect their rock projectiles back at them, often defeating them instantly. This is particularly satisfying!

Pikit

  • Description: These bird-like enemies are unique to Lorule, often found in rocky or mountainous regions. They swoop down to grab Link's shield, temporarily disarming him.
  • Locations: Death Mountain (Lorule), Turtle Rock (Lorule).
  • Strategy:
    • Melee: Pikits are agile. Wait for them to swoop down, then quickly strike with your Master Sword. A well-timed spin attack can hit multiple Pikits.
    • Ranged: The Bow is excellent for taking them out before they can steal your shield. The Hookshot can also stun them mid-flight, making them vulnerable.
    • If Disarmed: If a Pikit steals your Shield, quickly defeat it to retrieve your item. They will fly away with it if you don't act fast!

Hinox

  • Description: Large, cyclopean giants that lumber through certain areas, primarily in Lorule. They attack by throwing bombs and attempting to stomp on Link.
  • Locations: Desert of Mystery (Lorule), Dark Palace (Lorule).
  • Strategy:
    • Vulnerability: Hinox are vulnerable to attacks on their single eye.
    • Melee: Get close and unleash a flurry of Master Sword strikes on their eye. Be prepared to dodge their stomps.
    • Ranged: The Bow is your best friend here. Aim directly for the eye. The Bomb item can also be thrown to stun them, creating an opening for further attacks.
    • Bomb Deflection: If a Hinox throws a bomb, you can pick it up (if it's not already lit) and throw it back at them for significant damage.

Popo

  • Description: Small, spherical, bouncy creatures that appear in both worlds, often in groups. They primarily attack by bouncing into Link.
  • Locations: Hyrule Castle (Hyrule), House of Gales (Hyrule), Ice Ruins (Lorule).
  • Strategy:
    • Melee: The Sword is perfectly adequate. A single strike will usually defeat them. The Spin Attack is highly effective against groups.
    • Ranged: The Fire Rod can quickly clear out groups of Popos. The Boomerang can stun them, making them easy targets.
    • Environmental Advantage: In areas with ledges, you can often knock Popos off for an instant defeat.

Wallmaster

  • Description: These disembodied hands drop from the ceiling, attempting to grab Link and return him to the dungeon entrance. They are often accompanied by a distinct shadow on the floor.
  • Locations: Tower of Hera (Hyrule), Thieves' Hideout (Lorule).
  • Strategy:
    • Avoidance: The most important strategy is to watch for their shadow! Move out of the shadow's path to avoid being grabbed.
    • Melee: If you're quick, you can strike them with your Master Sword as they descend or after they land. They take a few hits.
    • Ranged: The Bow or Hookshot can stun them, giving you time to escape or finish them off. The Bomb can also damage them.
    • Consequence: Being caught by a Wallmaster means being warped back to the dungeon's entrance, which can be frustrating in deeper levels.

Specialized & Mini-Boss Foes

Eyegore

  • Description: Stone statues that come to life when Link approaches, revealing a single glowing eye. They are impervious to most attacks except on their eye.
  • Locations: Desert Palace (Hyrule), Dark Palace (Lorule).
  • Strategy:
    • Vulnerability: Their eye is their only weak point.
    • Melee: Wait for them to open their eye, then quickly strike with the Master Sword. This often requires careful timing and dodging their charges.
    • Ranged: The Bow is ideal. Fire an arrow directly into their open eye. The Hookshot can stun them briefly, forcing their eye open.
    • Merge Tactic: Merge into the wall to avoid their charges, then emerge and strike their eye when it's exposed.

Goriya

  • Description: Fox-like creatures that wield boomerangs. They are quick and their boomerang can be a nuisance.
  • Locations: House of Gales (Hyrule), Thieves' Hideout (Lorule).
  • Strategy:
    • Boomerang Battle: The most effective strategy is to use your own Boomerang. When a Goriya throws its boomerang, throw yours to intercept it. This will stun the Goriya, allowing you to attack with your Sword.
    • Melee: If you don't have the Boomerang, you'll need to be agile. Dodge their boomerang and close the distance for Sword strikes.
    • Merge Tactic: Merge into a wall to avoid their boomerang, then pop out to strike.

Rupoor

  • Description: These rare, shadowy creatures resemble Rupees but will steal your Rupees if you touch them. They are more of a nuisance than a threat.
  • Locations: Randomly appear in dungeons and the overworld, particularly in Lorule.
  • Strategy:
    • Avoidance: The best strategy is simply to avoid touching them. They are easily distinguishable from real Rupees by their darker, shimmering appearance.
    • Defeat: They can be defeated with any weapon, but they offer no rewards and only serve to prevent you from losing Rupees. It's often not worth the effort unless they are directly in your path.

This compendium will be updated as new threats are encountered throughout your journey. Stay vigilant, Link!
