Welcome, hero of Hyrule (and Lorule)! This section provides a comprehensive walkthrough for each major dungeon in The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. We'll cover everything from puzzle solutions to boss strategies, ensuring you collect every hidden item and emerge victorious. Prepare to delve deep into the mysteries of both worlds!

Eastern Palace

Your first true challenge! The Eastern Palace introduces you to the core mechanics of merging and the importance of your trusty Bow. Prepare for a relatively straightforward dungeon, but don't get complacent. This dungeon is located in the eastern part of Hyrule, accessible after renting the Bow from Ravio.

  • Required Item: Bow (rented from Ravio's Shop).
  • Key Items:
    • Compass: Found in the large central room on the first floor. Defeat all enemies (Popos and Wallmasters) to make the chest appear.
    • Dungeon Map: Located in a chest on the second floor, accessible after solving a simple block puzzle (pushing a block onto a switch).
    • Small Key (x2): One found in a chest after merging past a Wallmaster, another dropped by a Popo in a later room.
    • Big Key: Acquired after defeating the Mini-Boss, the Ball and Chain Soldier.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. Upon entering, head north. Use your Bow to hit the eye switch above the door to open it.
    2. In the next room, defeat the Popos and Wallmasters. Merge onto the wall to reach the chest containing a Small Key.
    3. Return to the entrance room and use the Small Key on the locked door to the east.
    4. Navigate the conveyor belt room. Use your Bow to hit the crystal switch to reverse the belt's direction, allowing access to the northern path. Defeat the enemies here to make a chest appear, containing the Compass.
    5. Head upstairs via the staircase in the conveyor belt room. You'll enter a room with moving platforms and more Popos. Merge onto the wall to cross gaps and reach the chest containing the Dungeon Map.
    6. Proceed through the next few rooms, utilizing merging to avoid Wallmasters and solve minor puzzles. You'll find another Small Key dropped by a Popo.
    7. Use the second Small Key to unlock the door leading to the Mini-Boss room.
  • Mini-Boss: Ball and Chain Soldier
    • Location: Second floor, accessible after acquiring the Dungeon Map and a second Small Key.
    • Strategy: This armored foe is immune to direct attacks from the front. Wait for him to swing his heavy ball and chain, then quickly merge onto the wall to avoid the attack. While he's recovering from his swing, unmerge and strike his exposed back with your sword. Repeat this process until he's defeated. Be mindful of his charge attack if you stay in front of him too long.
    • Reward: The Big Key.
  • Boss: Yuga
    • Location: Top floor of the Eastern Palace.
    • Strategy: Yuga is a cunning sorcerer who will attempt to turn Link into a painting. The battle begins with Yuga conjuring various enemies from paintings. Dodge these and wait for Yuga to perform his signature move: painting Link's portrait on the wall. As soon as he begins this, quickly shoot him with an arrow from your Bow. This will stun him and cause him to fall to the ground, allowing you to strike him with your sword. After taking enough damage, Yuga will create a large, moving painting of himself. Merge onto the wall and quickly move behind this painting to knock him out of it, making him vulnerable again. Repeat the arrow-to-painting, sword-strike pattern until he is defeated. Be careful not to get caught by his magic projectiles or the enemies he summons.
    • Reward: A Heart Container and the first Sage, Seres.

House of Gales

The House of Gales is a windy labyrinth that will test your aerial navigation and merging skills. The Tornado Rod is your essential tool here, allowing you to reach new heights and activate switches. This dungeon is located in the northern part of Hyrule, accessible after renting the Tornado Rod from Ravio.

  • Required Item: Tornado Rod (rented from Ravio's Shop).
  • Key Items:
    • Dungeon Map: Found on the first floor, in a room with several wind vents. Use the Tornado Rod to activate a switch that reveals the chest.
    • Compass: Located on the second floor, after using the Tornado Rod to cross a large gap and activate a floor switch.
    • Small Key (x2): One found after a series of wind puzzles, another dropped by an enemy.
    • Big Key: Obtained after defeating the Mini-Boss, Grimleaz.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. From the entrance, head north. Use the Tornado Rod on the wind vents to propel yourself upwards and across gaps.
    2. Navigate the first floor, using the Tornado Rod to activate floor switches and open doors. In a room with multiple wind vents, use the Tornado Rod on a specific vent to activate a switch, revealing a chest with the Dungeon Map.
    3. Continue through the dungeon, solving wind-based puzzles. You'll need to use the Tornado Rod to stun enemies and cross chasms. You'll find your first Small Key after a series of these puzzles.
    4. Ascend to the second floor. Here, you'll encounter more complex wind puzzles. Use the Tornado Rod to cross a large chasm and activate a floor switch, which will reveal the chest containing the Compass.
    5. Proceed further, utilizing merging onto walls to avoid powerful gusts of wind and reach higher platforms. You'll find a second Small Key dropped by an enemy in a windy corridor.
    6. Use a Small Key to unlock the door leading to the Mini-Boss room.
  • Mini-Boss: Grimleaz
    • Location: Second floor, accessible after acquiring a Small Key.
    • Strategy: Grimleaz is a large, floating creature that summons smaller enemies (Gale Crawlers). Use your Tornado Rod to stun him when he's close to the ground. While he's stunned, quickly attack him with your sword. Be mindful of the smaller enemies he spawns, as they can be a distraction and deal damage. Clear them out if they become too numerous. Repeat the stun-and-strike process until he's defeated.
    • Reward: The Big Key.
  • Boss: Margomill
    • Location: Top floor of the House of Gales.
    • Strategy: Margomill is a giant eye that floats in the center of a circular arena, surrounded by wind currents. Your goal is to use the Tornado Rod to launch yourself into the air. Aim to land on the small, rotating platforms above the boss. From these platforms, you can drop down onto Margomill's central eye, causing damage. Be careful of the strong wind currents that can push you off the platforms and the smaller eyes (Margomen) that Margomill spawns. After taking enough damage, Margomill will split into multiple smaller eyes. You must defeat all of these individual Margomen by striking them with your sword. Once all the smaller eyes are destroyed, Margomill is defeated.
    • Reward: A Heart Container and the second Sage, Gulley.

Tower of Hera

The Tower of Hera is a vertical ascent, filled with moving platforms, bottomless pits, and challenging enemies. The Hammer is your key to progression here, allowing you to activate switches and flatten obstacles. This dungeon is located atop Death Mountain in Hyrule, requiring careful navigation of the mountain path to reach.

  • Required Item: Hammer (rented from Ravio's Shop).
  • Key Items:
    • Dungeon Map: Found on the first floor, in a chest accessible after using the Hammer to hit a switch that lowers a platform.

    • Small Key (x2): One found after a series of Hammer-activated switches, another dropped by a Hardhat Beetle.
    • Big Key: Dropped by the Mini-Boss, Arrghus.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. From the entrance, head upwards. You'll immediately encounter obstacles that require the Hammer to overcome, such as switches that control platforms and pegs that need to be flattened.
    2. Navigate the first floor, using the Hammer to activate switches and defeat armored enemies like Hardhat Beetles. The Dungeon Map is found early on after a Hammer puzzle involving lowering a platform.
    3. Ascend to the second floor. Here, you'll face more complex puzzles involving hitting switches with the Hammer to manipulate platforms and open doors. Be mindful of the moving platforms and bottomless pits; merging onto walls can help bypass some gaps. You'll find your first Small Key after a sequence of Hammer-activated platforms.
    4. Continue upwards to the third floor. You'll need to time your movements across precarious platforms and use the Hammer to activate distant switches. The Compass is located in a chest on this floor after solving a specific platforming puzzle.
    5. Proceed through the dungeon, defeating enemies and solving more Hammer puzzles. You'll find a second Small Key dropped by a Hardhat Beetle.
    6. Use a Small Key to unlock the door leading to the Mini-Boss room.
  • Mini-Boss: Arrghus
    • Location: Third floor, accessible after acquiring a Small Key.
    • Strategy: Arrghus is a large, floating eye surrounded by smaller eyeballs (Arrgi). Use your Hammer to hit the main eye, which will temporarily stun it and scatter the smaller eyeballs. While the smaller eyeballs are scattered, quickly attack them with your sword until they are all defeated. Once all the smaller eyeballs are gone, Arrghus will be vulnerable to direct sword attacks. Strike the main eye repeatedly until it is defeated. Be careful of Arrghus's slam attack and the smaller eyeballs' erratic movements.
    • Reward: The Big Key.
  • Boss: Moldorm
    • Location: Top floor of the Tower of Hera.
    • Strategy: Moldorm is a giant worm-like creature that moves quickly around the circular arena. Your goal is to hit its glowing tail with your sword. Each successful hit will cause it to speed up and become more erratic. Be careful not to fall off the edge of the arena, as this will force you to restart the fight. Moldorm will also try to knock you off with its body. Anticipate its movements and strike its tail when an opening appears. After several hits, Moldorm will be defeated.
    • Reward: A Heart Container and the third Sage, Rosso.

Thieves' Hideout

The Thieves' Hideout is a unique dungeon located in Lorule, requiring you to escort a young woman through its treacherous halls. • Key Items:

    • Location: Second floor, accessible after acquiring a Small Key.
    • Strategy: Stalblind is a large skeletal knight. The key to defeating him is to remove his shield. Wait for him to charge, then merge onto the wall behind him. When he turns to face you, quickly unmerge and strike his back with your sword. This will temporarily disarm him. While he is without his shield, attack him relentlessly. He will eventually retrieve his shield. Repeat this process. Be careful of his sword swings and shield bash attacks.
    • Reward: The Big Key.

Hyrule Castle (Final Dungeon)

Hyrule Castle, now transformed into a dark and twisted fortress, serves as the final dungeon of your adventure. This dungeon is a culmination of all the skills you've learned, featuring elements from previous dungeons and demanding mastery of all your rented items. Prepare for a challenging ascent to confront the ultimate evil.

  • Required Items: All rented items from Ravio's Shop (Bow, Tornado Rod, Hammer, Sand Rod, Hookshot, Fire Rod, Ice Rod, Lamp).
  • Key Items:
    • Dungeon Map: Found early on, often after a series of initial puzzles.
    • Compass: Located mid-way through the dungeon, after navigating a complex section.
    • Small Key (x5+): Numerous keys are scattered throughout, requiring various item uses to obtain.
    • Big Key: Obtained after defeating the Mini-Boss, a powerful Darknut.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. Upon entering the transformed Hyrule Castle, you'll find yourself in a large, multi-level fortress. The dungeon will test your proficiency with all your items.
    2. Navigate through rooms that combine elements from previous dungeons: wind puzzles requiring the Tornado Rod, sand pits needing the Sand Rod, lava flows for the Ice Rod, dark rooms for the Lamp, and so on. The Dungeon Map is found relatively early in a chest after a combined item puzzle.
    3. Expect to use the Hookshot to cross gaps, the Hammer to activate switches, and the Bow for distant targets. You'll collect multiple Small Keys by solving these varied puzzles and defeating stronger enemies.
    4. The dungeon is designed as a vertical ascent, with many floors and interconnected rooms. The Compass is typically found on a higher floor after a particularly challenging sequence of puzzles involving multiple items.
    5. Be prepared for tougher versions of common enemies and new, more formidable foes. Conserve your energy and magic meter.
    6. Eventually, you'll reach the Mini-Boss room.
  • Mini-Boss: Darknut
    • Location: Mid-to-upper floors of Hyrule Castle.
    • Strategy: The Darknut is a heavily armored knight. It is immune to frontal attacks. You must use your Hookshot to pull off its helmet, then quickly attack its exposed head with your sword. Alternatively, you can merge onto the wall behind it when it charges, then unmerge and strike its back. Be careful of its powerful sword swings and its shield. After taking enough damage, it may lose its helmet permanently, making it easier to hit, but it will become more aggressive.
    • Reward: The Big Key.
  • Boss: Yuga-Ganon
    • Location: Top of Hyrule Castle.
    • Strategy: This is the final confrontation, a multi-stage battle against Yuga, who has absorbed Ganon's power.
      1. Phase 1 (Yuga): Yuga will attack with his trident and magic. Dodge his attacks and wait for an opening. When he paints himself onto the wall, use the Bow to shoot him as he's painting Link's portrait, just like the Eastern Palace fight. This will stun him, allowing you to strike with your sword.
      2. Phase 2 (Yuga-Ganon): Yuga will merge with Ganon, becoming a colossal, painting-like entity. He will attack with massive energy blasts and by trying to crush you. Your primary strategy is to use the Bow to shoot the glowing eye on his body. He will often turn into a painting on the wall. Merge onto the wall and maneuver to his back, then unmerge and strike the eye.
      3. Phase 3 (Yuga-Ganon, final form): He will become even more aggressive. You'll need to use specific items to create openings. For example, using the Hammer to stun him after a ground pound, or the Ice Rod to freeze parts of him. The key is to identify his weak points as they appear and use the appropriate item to create an opening for sword attacks or arrow shots. This phase often involves a combination of all your items. Pay close attention to Princess Zelda's advice, as she will sometimes provide hints.
