Enemy Weaknesses & Resistances

Understanding the strengths and vulnerabilities of Hyrule's diverse enemy population is paramount to efficient combat and resource management. This section details common enemy types, their specific weaknesses, and any notable resistances they possess. Employing the right item or strategy can turn a challenging encounter into a trivial one, saving you precious hearts and valuable time.

General Strategies & Universal Weaknesses

  • Z-Targeting: Always utilize Z-Targeting (or L-Targeting on the 3DS version) to lock onto enemies. This allows for precise attacks, defensive maneuvers, and the effective use of projectile items.
  • Spin Attack: The Spin Attack (hold B and release, or rotate the analog stick and press B) is a powerful area-of-effect move, excellent for clearing groups of weaker enemies or hitting larger foes multiple times.
  • Deku Nuts: These versatile items can stun most non-boss enemies, providing an opening for a few sword slashes or a quick escape. They are especially effective against Keese, Wallmasters, and even some Stalfos.
  • Bombs/Bombchus: Explosives deal significant damage to many enemies and are often required to break through armored defenses or reveal hidden weaknesses. Keep a healthy supply, especially in dungeons.
  • Arrows: The Fairy Bow, once acquired, becomes an indispensable tool. Arrows can hit distant targets, trigger switches, and exploit elemental weaknesses when combined with magic.

Specific Enemy Weaknesses & Resistances

Deku Scrubs

  • Weakness: Deflected Deku Nuts.
    • Strategy: As a child, use your Deku Shield to deflect their projectiles back at them. As an adult, a simple sword strike will often suffice after they pop out.
  • Resistance: Direct sword attacks while burrowed.

Keese (Normal, Fire, Ice)

  • Weakness: Almost any attack.
    • Strategy: A single sword slash, Deku Nut, or Slingshot pellet will defeat them. Fire Keese are vulnerable to the Hookshot/Longshot, which douses their flame and defeats them instantly. Ice Keese can be thawed and defeated with Din's Fire or a Fire Arrow.
  • Resistance: None notable, but their erratic flight can make them hard to hit with melee.

Stalfos

  • Weakness: Bombs, Spin Attack, Din's Fire.
    • Strategy: Lure them into attacking, then counter with a few sword slashes. For a quicker defeat, drop a Bomb near them or use a well-timed Spin Attack. Din's Fire can hit multiple Stalfos at once.
  • Resistance: Standard sword slashes can be blocked by their shields.

Lizalfos/Dinalfos

  • Weakness: Counter-attacks, Jump Attack.
    • Strategy: These agile foes are best defeated by waiting for them to attack, then dodging and immediately counter-attacking. The Jump Attack (Z-target + A) is particularly effective for dealing heavy damage.
  • Resistance: Very quick and can block many frontal attacks with their shields.

Poe/Big Poe

  • Weakness: Arrows, Hookshot/Longshot, Spin Attack.
    • Strategy: Poes are ethereal and can only be damaged when they materialize. Z-target them and shoot with an Arrow. Big Poes, found in Hyrule Field as an adult, require Epona. Ride past them, turn, and shoot them with Arrows as they appear.
  • Resistance: Immune to most physical attacks when intangible.

Like Like

  • Weakness: Bombs, Spin Attack, Hookshot/Longshot.
    • Strategy: These gelatinous creatures can steal your shield or tunic. Hit them with a Bomb or a powerful Spin Attack. The Hookshot/Longshot can stun them, allowing for easy sword strikes.
  • Resistance: Standard sword attacks are less effective.

Iron Knuckle

  • Weakness: Bombs, Megaton Hammer, powerful sword attacks.
    • Strategy: These heavily armored knights are formidable. Lure them into attacking, then dodge and hit their exposed back. Bombs and the Megaton Hammer can break their armor more quickly. Once their armor is gone, they become much faster but also more vulnerable.
  • Resistance: Immune to most frontal attacks due to heavy armor.

Wallmaster/Floormaster

  • Weakness: Deku Nuts (stun), Bombs, Spin Attack.
    • Strategy: Wallmasters drop from the ceiling; listen for their shadow. Roll or run to avoid. Once they land, hit them with a few sword strikes. Floormasters split into smaller versions when hit; defeat the smaller ones quickly before they reform. Deku Nuts can stun them all.
  • Resistance: None notable, but their surprise attacks can be dangerous.

Beamos

  • Weakness: Bombs, Bombchus, Arrows to the eye.
    • Strategy: These stationary turrets fire a laser beam. Throw a Bomb or Bombchu at their base, or shoot an Arrow directly into their eye.
  • Resistance: Immune to most direct sword attacks.

Armos

  • Weakness: Bombs (when activated).
    • Strategy: Armos statues come to life when touched. Once active, they hop around. Place a Bomb near them, and it will explode, destroying them.
  • Resistance: Invulnerable until activated.

ReDead/Gibdo

  • Weakness: Sun's Song (stun), Din's Fire, Spin Attack.
    • Strategy: These undead creatures paralyze Link with their shriek. Play the Sun's Song to stun them, then attack repeatedly. Din's Fire is also very effective.
  • Resistance: High HP and paralyzing attack.

Torch Slugs

  • Weakness: Hookshot/Longshot, Megaton Hammer, Ice Arrows.
    • Strategy: These fiery slugs are immune to regular sword attacks when aflame. Use the Hookshot/Longshot to pull off their fiery shell, then attack with your sword. The Megaton Hammer can also damage them directly. Ice Arrows will instantly defeat them.
  • Resistance: Fire-based immunity to standard sword attacks.

Freezards

  • Weakness: Din's Fire, Fire Arrows, Megaton Hammer.
    • Strategy: These ice-breathing enemies can freeze Link. Use Din's Fire or Fire Arrows to melt them instantly. The Megaton Hammer can also break them apart.
  • Resistance: Ice-based attacks.

By keeping these weaknesses and resistances in mind, you'll be well-equipped to face any challenge Hyrule throws your way. Always consider your inventory and the environment to gain an advantage in combat!
