Boss Key Locations

The Boss Key is a crucial item in each dungeon, allowing you to access the final boss chamber. Finding it often involves solving complex puzzles or defeating mini-bosses. Here’s a detailed breakdown of where to find each Boss Key:

Dodongo's Cavern

  • Location: Lower level, central chamber.
  • Steps:
    1. Upon entering the main cavern, navigate to the lower level.
    2. You'll notice a large, unlit Dodongo statue in the center.
    3. To activate the statue, you need to light its two eyes. Use your Deku Sticks or Din's Fire.
    4. Once both eyes are lit, the statue will explode, revealing a hidden passage below.
    5. Drop down into this passage. The Boss Key will be waiting on a pedestal in the small room.

Jabu-Jabu's Belly

  • Location: Inside the stomach, after navigating the moving platforms.
  • Steps:
    1. Progress through Jabu-Jabu's Belly until you reach the large room with the constantly moving platforms and the electric jellyfish (Bari).
    2. You'll need to reach the far side of this room. Use the Boomerang to stun the Bari and clear your path.
    3. Once across, you'll find a switch on the wall. Hit it with your Boomerang to open a door.
    4. Enter the newly opened room. Inside, you'll face a mini-boss: a giant, tougher version of the Biri (electric jellyfish).
    5. Defeat the mini-boss by stunning it with the Boomerang and then attacking its core with your Kokiri Sword.
    6. After defeating the mini-boss, a treasure chest will appear containing the Boss Key.

Forest Temple

  • Location: Twisted hallway, after defeating the first two Poe Sisters.
  • Steps:
    1. After defeating the first two Poe Sisters (Amy and Beth) and untwisting the first section of the central hallway, proceed to the next twisted section.
    2. You'll need to untwist this section as well. This involves pushing the block with the symbol into its correct position.
    3. Once the hallway is untwisted, proceed through it. You'll enter a room with a large, unlit torch in the center.
    4. Light this torch using a Deku Stick or Din's Fire.
    5. Lighting the torch will cause a treasure chest to appear on a raised platform.
    6. Use your Hookshot to grapple onto the target above the chest and pull yourself up.
    7. Open the chest to claim the Boss Key.

Fire Temple

  • Location: Upper levels, after freeing Gorons and navigating lava pits.
  • Steps:
    1. Work your way through the Fire Temple, freeing the Gorons trapped in cells. You'll need the Megaton Hammer to activate certain switches.
    2. After freeing the Goron in the room with the large rolling boulder maze (the one that leads to the upper levels), proceed upwards.
    3. You'll eventually reach a room with a large, raised platform in the center, surrounded by lava. There will be a switch on the platform.
    4. To reach this platform, you'll need to use the Hover Boots to cross the lava or carefully time your jumps if you're skilled.
    5. Once on the platform, use the Megaton Hammer to hit the switch. This will cause a section of the wall to lower, revealing a hidden passage.
    6. Enter the passage. Inside, you'll find a large treasure chest containing the Boss Key.

Water Temple

  • Location: Central pillar, after adjusting water levels multiple times.
  • Steps:
    1. The Water Temple's Boss Key is notoriously tricky. You'll need to manipulate the water levels multiple times using the Triforce symbols.
    2. First, raise the water to the middle level (Triforce symbol on the second floor).
    3. Swim to the central pillar and dive down to the bottom. You'll find a passage leading to a room with a large block puzzle.
    4. Push the blocks into their correct positions to open a gate.
    5. Beyond the gate, you'll face the mini-boss: Dark Link.
    6. Strategy for Dark Link: Equip the Master Sword and Deku Shield. Use the Megaton Hammer for heavy damage, or jump attacks with the Master Sword. Be prepared to block his attacks.
    7. After defeating Dark Link, a treasure chest will appear in the room containing the Longshot.
    8. Now, lower the water to the lowest level (Triforce symbol on the first floor).
    9. Return to the central pillar. Look for a small, hidden passage on the lowest level that was previously submerged.
    10. Use your newly acquired Longshot to grapple across to a target on the other side of this passage.
    11. In the room you reach, you'll find a large treasure chest containing the Boss Key.

Shadow Temple

  • Location: After navigating the invisible platforms and defeating the Dead Hand mini-boss.
  • Steps:
    1. Progress through the Shadow Temple until you reach the room with the invisible platforms and the spinning scythe traps. You'll need the Lens of Truth to safely navigate this area.
    2. Carefully cross the invisible platforms, avoiding the scythes.
    3. On the other side, you'll find a room with a large, circular platform in the center. This is where you'll encounter the mini-boss: Dead Hand.
    4. Strategy for Dead Hand: Allow one of the small hands to grab you, then quickly attack Dead Hand's head with your Master Sword when it appears. Repeat this process.
    5. After defeating Dead Hand, a large treasure chest will appear in the center of the room.
    6. Open the chest to obtain the Boss Key.

Spirit Temple

  • Location: After completing both Young Link and Adult Link sections and defeating the Iron Knuckle mini-boss.
  • Steps:
    1. The Spirit Temple requires you to switch between Young Link and Adult Link.
    2. As Young Link, navigate the temple until you obtain the Silver Gauntlets.
    3. As Adult Link, return to the Spirit Temple. Use the Silver Gauntlets to push the large block in the main entrance hall.
    4. Continue through the temple as Adult Link, solving puzzles and defeating enemies.
    5. You'll eventually reach a room with a large statue of a woman. On the upper level of this room, you'll find an Iron Knuckle.
    6. Strategy for Iron Knuckle: Keep your distance and use jump attacks with the Master Sword. Be prepared to block its slow but powerful attacks. You can also use Bombchus to damage it from afar.
    7. After defeating the Iron Knuckle, a large treasure chest will appear in the room.
    8. Open the chest to claim the final Boss Key.
