Compass & Dungeon Map Locations

Navigating the intricate dungeons of Hyrule can be a daunting task, but with the Dungeon Map and Compass, you'll always know where you're going and what secrets lie ahead. These invaluable items reveal the dungeon's layout and the location of key treasures, including the Boss Key and any remaining small keys. This section details where to find these crucial navigational tools in each major dungeon.

Deku Tree

  • Dungeon Map:
    1. Upon entering the Deku Tree, proceed straight until you reach the large central room with the Gohma Larva on the ceiling.
    2. Turn right and head through the door.
    3. Defeat the two Deku Babas in this room.
    4. The chest containing the Dungeon Map will appear in the center of the room.
  • Compass:
    1. From the central room, drop down to the lowest level (B1).
    2. Navigate through the water-filled passage, avoiding or defeating the Big Skulltula.
    3. Climb the vines on the far wall to reach a small ledge.
    4. Open the chest on this ledge to obtain the Compass.

Dodongo's Cavern

  • Dungeon Map:
    1. From the entrance, head straight into the main chamber with the large Dodongo statue.
    2. Turn left and enter the passage.
    3. Follow this path, dealing with the Keese, until you reach a room with a switch on the floor.
    4. Step on the switch to open a door.
    5. Go through the newly opened door. The chest containing the Dungeon Map is directly in front of you.
  • Compass:
    1. After obtaining the Dungeon Map, return to the main chamber with the Dodongo statue.
    2. Place a bomb on the cracked wall directly opposite the entrance to reveal a new passage.
    3. Enter this passage and defeat the two Lizalfos in the ensuing mini-boss battle.
    4. Once defeated, the door to the next room will open.
    5. In this next room, the chest containing the Compass will be visible on a raised platform. Use a bomb to activate the switch on the ground, raising the platform to reach the chest.

Jabu-Jabu's Belly

  • Dungeon Map:
    1. From the entrance, allow Jabu-Jabu to swallow you.
    2. Inside, head right and drop down the hole.
    3. In the next room, defeat the two Biri (jellyfish) to open the door.
    4. Proceed through the door. The chest containing the Dungeon Map is in the center of this room.
  • Compass:
    1. After acquiring the Dungeon Map, return to the room where you dropped down the hole.
    2. Look for a platform with a switch. You'll need to carry Princess Ruto across the gap and place her on the switch to open a door.
    3. Go through the door.
    4. In this new area, you'll encounter a large Octorok. Defeat it by deflecting its projectiles with your Deku Shield.
    5. Once the Octorok is defeated, a chest will appear containing the Compass.

Forest Temple

  • Dungeon Map:
    1. Upon entering the main chamber of the Forest Temple, you'll see a large central room with a twisted tree.
    2. Head to the right side of this room and enter the door.
    3. Navigate through the next few rooms, dealing with Stalfos and Wallmasters.
    4. You will eventually reach a room with a large block puzzle. Push the block into the hole.
    5. The chest containing the Dungeon Map will appear on a nearby platform.
  • Compass:
    1. From the main chamber, head to the left side and enter the door.
    2. You'll find yourself in a room with a large, rotating platform and a series of platforms above a pit.
    3. Use your Hookshot to cross to the other side of the room.
    4. Defeat the two Stalfos that appear.
    5. Once they are defeated, a chest containing the Compass will materialize.

Fire Temple

  • Dungeon Map:
    1. From the entrance, proceed through the first few rooms until you reach the large central chamber with the lava pit and various cells.
    2. Head to the far right of this chamber and enter the door.
    3. Follow the path, avoiding or defeating the Keese and Fire Keese.
    4. You will eventually come to a room with a switch on the ground. Step on it to open a cell.
    5. Inside the opened cell, you'll find a chest containing the Dungeon Map.
  • Compass:
    1. From the central chamber, take the path to the left.
    2. You'll need to navigate a series of platforms and avoid falling into the lava.
    3. Eventually, you'll reach a room with a large boulder blocking a path. Use a bomb to destroy it.
    4. Beyond the boulder, you'll find a chest containing the Compass.

Water Temple

  • Dungeon Map:
    1. From the entrance, swim down to the lowest level.
    2. Locate the central pillar and swim into the passage directly opposite the entrance.
    3. Follow this underwater passage, dealing with the Spikes.
    4. You will emerge in a room with a chest on a platform. Open it to get the Dungeon Map.
  • Compass:
    1. After obtaining the Dungeon Map, return to the central pillar.
    2. Raise the water level to the middle floor using the Triforce symbol on the wall.
    3. Swim to the eastern side of the temple (look for the door with the unlit torches).
    4. Enter this door.
    5. In the next room, you'll find a chest on a small platform. Open it to receive the Compass.

Shadow Temple

  • Dungeon Map:
    1. From the entrance, use the Lens of Truth to reveal the hidden path across the first chasm.
    2. Continue through the next few rooms, using the Lens of Truth to avoid traps and reveal hidden enemies.
    3. You will eventually reach a room with a large fan.
    4. Look for a hidden passage on the left side of this room (revealed by the Lens of Truth).
    5. Follow this passage to a small room with a chest containing the Dungeon Map.
  • Compass:
    1. After acquiring the Dungeon Map, return to the room with the large fan.
    2. Proceed to the right side of the fan room, again using the Lens of Truth to find hidden paths.
    3. You will enter a room with several invisible enemies (like Like Likes). Defeat them.
    4. The chest containing the Compass will appear after all enemies are defeated.

Spirit Temple

  • Dungeon Map:
    1. As Young Link, enter the Spirit Temple.
    2. Proceed through the first few rooms, solving the puzzles involving the sun blocks and the Armos statues.
    3. You will eventually reach a room with a large statue of a goddess.
    4. Look for a small opening on the left side of this room. Crawl through it.
    5. In the next chamber, the chest containing the Dungeon Map is on a raised platform.
  • Compass:
    1. As Adult Link, enter the Spirit Temple.
    2. Use the Longshot to reach the higher platforms in the main entrance chamber.
    3. Navigate through the upper levels until you reach a room with a large block that needs to be pushed.
    4. Push the block to reveal a hidden passage.
    5. Follow this passage to a room with a chest containing the Compass.
