Common Enemies

Octorok

  • Description: These familiar, octopus-like creatures are a staple of Hyrule and Holodrum alike. They typically appear in open fields and watery areas, spitting rocks at Link from a distance.
  • Locations: Found throughout Eastern and Western Holodrum, particularly prevalent in areas like North Horon and the Samasa Desert (though desert variants may appear slightly different).
  • Strategy:
    • Melee Approach: The simplest method is to approach them directly and strike with your Wooden Sword or Noble Sword. Be mindful of their projectile attack; if you're close enough, you can often hit them before they fire.
    • Shield Defense: Your Wooden Shield or Iron Shield can deflect their rocks. Use this to your advantage to close the distance safely.
    • Projectile Counter: A well-timed deflection with your shield can send their own rock back at them, defeating them instantly. This is particularly useful for Octoroks positioned across water or pits.
    • Bombs: For groups or if you prefer a ranged attack, a single Bomb will defeat an Octorok.
  • Drops: Occasionally drop Rupees or Hearts.

Moblin

  • Description: Pig-like humanoids, Moblins are more aggressive than Octoroks and often wield spears or clubs. They charge at Link once they spot him.
  • Locations: Common in forest areas such as Woods of Winter and Spool Swamp, and sometimes found guarding paths in mountainous regions.
  • Strategy:
    • Spear Moblins: These Moblins will charge in a straight line. The best approach is to wait for them to commit to their charge, then sidestep and strike with your Sword as they pass. Alternatively, a well-aimed Boomerang can stun them, allowing for an easy follow-up attack.
    • Club Moblins: These variants often patrol smaller areas and swing their clubs in a wider arc. Keep your distance and strike after they've completed an attack animation. The Pegasus Seeds can be useful here to quickly get in and out of range.
    • Ranged Attacks: The Slingshot with Ember Seeds or Mystery Seeds can dispatch Moblins from a safe distance. Bombs are also effective.
  • Drops: Can drop Rupees, Hearts, or rarely, Bombs.

Ghini

  • Description: These ghostly enemies are often found in graveyards and dark, enclosed spaces. They are intangible until attacked, at which point they become solid and vulnerable.
  • Locations: Primarily encountered in the Graveyard, particularly when searching for the Power Bracelet. Also appear in certain dungeons like the Gnarled Root Dungeon.
  • Strategy:
    • Initial Attack: Ghinis are invulnerable to most attacks until you strike them once. Your Sword is the most reliable way to make them solid.
    • Follow-up: Once solid, they will float towards Link. Quickly follow up with additional Sword strikes to defeat them before they can touch you.
    • Magic Powder: The Magic Powder is incredibly effective against Ghinis. One sprinkle will defeat them instantly, regardless of whether they are solid or intangible. This is highly recommended for clearing rooms quickly.
    • Boomerang: The Boomerang can stun a solid Ghini, giving you a moment to reposition or strike.
  • Drops: May drop Hearts or Magic Powder refills.

Pols Voice

  • Description: These bouncing, rabbit-like creatures are a nuisance due to their unique weakness. They are often found in dungeons and caves.
  • Locations: Frequently encountered in the second dungeon, the Snake's Remains, and other later dungeons.
  • Strategy:
    • Sound Weakness: Pols Voice are famously vulnerable to loud noises. The most effective way to defeat them is to play the Flute (Ricky's Flute, Moosh's Flute, or Dimitri's Flute) when they are on screen. This will instantly defeat all Pols Voice present.
    • Bomb Strategy: If you don't have a Flute or prefer a different method, a single Bomb will also defeat a Pols Voice. Place it strategically in their bouncing path.
    • Sword (Less Effective): While you can defeat them with your Sword, it takes many hits and is generally not recommended due to their erratic bouncing and the availability of easier methods.
  • Drops: Often drop Hearts or Bombs.

Dungeon Specific Enemies

Mini-Moldorm

  • Description: Smaller versions of the classic Moldorm boss, these segmented worms slither around, often in pits or confined spaces. Touching any part of their body will damage Link.
  • Locations: Prominently featured in the Gnarled Root Dungeon and subsequent dungeons with similar themes.
  • Strategy:
    • Tail Weakness: Like their larger counterparts, Mini-Moldorms are only vulnerable at their tail segment.
    • Sword Strikes: Wait for them to expose their tail, then strike with your Sword. They will often recoil rapidly after being hit, so be prepared to dodge or chase.
    • Boomerang Stun: The Boomerang can momentarily stun a Mini-Moldorm, making it easier to land a tail hit.
    • Ranged Attacks: The Slingshot can be used, but aiming for the small tail segment can be tricky.
  • Drops: Typically drop Hearts or Rupees.

Spiked Beetle

  • Description: These armored beetles are impervious to frontal attacks due to their spiky shells. They charge at Link in a predictable pattern.
  • Locations: First encountered in the Snake's Remains dungeon, and occasionally in later dungeons.
  • Strategy:
    • Shield Flip: The primary method to defeat a Spiked Beetle is to use your Shield to deflect their charge. When they hit your shield, they will flip onto their back, exposing their soft underside.
    • Sword Attack: Once flipped, quickly strike their underside with your Sword. They will right themselves after a short period, so act fast.
    • Bombs: A well-placed Bomb can also flip a Spiked Beetle, or even defeat it outright if it explodes while the beetle is vulnerable.
    • Power Bracelet: If you have the Power Bracelet, you can pick up and throw the flipped beetle into a pit or against a wall for an instant defeat.
  • Drops: Often drop Hearts or Rupees.
