Enemy Drops & Behaviors

Understanding enemy drops and behaviors is crucial for efficient exploration and resource management in Holodrum. Many enemies offer valuable items upon defeat, ranging from restorative hearts to essential rupees and even rare Gasha Seeds. Pay close attention to enemy patterns to conserve health and maximize your gains.

Common Enemy Drops

Most standard enemies will drop one of the following items:

  • Hearts: Restore 1 heart container. Essential for survival, especially in dungeons. Prioritize collecting these if your health is low.
  • Rupees: The currency of Holodrum. Green Rupees (1 Rupee), Blue Rupees (5 Rupees), and Red Rupees (20 Rupees) are the most common. Red Rupees are particularly valuable for purchasing items like Bombs or Seeds from shops.
  • Bombs: A single Bomb. Useful for replenishing your stock, especially if you’re running low after clearing a dungeon or breaking cracked walls.
  • Mystery Seeds: A single Mystery Seed. These versatile seeds can have various effects when launched from your Slingshot or Seed Shooter, from stunning enemies to revealing hidden passages. Always good to have a healthy supply.
  • Scent Seeds: A single Scent Seed. Primarily used to attract certain creatures or distract enemies. Less common drop than Mystery Seeds.
  • Ember Seeds: A single Ember Seed. Used to light torches, burn bushes, or damage enemies with fire. Often dropped by fire-based enemies.

Specific Enemy Behaviors & Strategies

Here’s a breakdown of some common enemies, their unique behaviors, and recommended strategies to defeat them, along with their typical drops:

Octoroks

  • Behavior: These octopus-like creatures emerge from water or land, spitting rocks at Link. They often retreat into their hiding spots after attacking.
  • Strategy: Approach cautiously. Use your Sword to deflect their rocks back at them, or simply time your strikes between their attacks. The Wooden Sword is usually sufficient.
  • Typical Drops: Green Rupees, Hearts.

Moblins

  • Behavior: Pig-like enemies that charge directly at Link or throw spears. Some Moblins are stationary and only throw spears.
  • Strategy: For charging Moblins, use your Shield to block their charge, then counter-attack with your Sword. For spear-throwing Moblins, dodge their projectiles and close the distance quickly for a few Sword strikes.
  • Typical Drops: Blue Rupees, Hearts, occasionally Bombs.

Goponga Flowers

  • Behavior: Found in the Goponga Swamp, these large, carnivorous plants spit fireballs. They are invulnerable to most attacks from the front.
  • Strategy: You cannot defeat them with your Sword directly. The most effective method is to use the Boomerang to stun them, then quickly strike their vulnerable core with your Sword. Alternatively, if you have the Roc’s Feather, you can jump over their fireballs and attack from the sides or behind.
  • Typical Drops: Hearts, Ember Seeds.

Pols Voice

  • Behavior: These ghostly, rabbit-like creatures hop around and are immune to most conventional attacks.
  • Strategy: The only way to defeat a Pols Voice is by using the Flute (obtained from the Maku Tree after clearing the first dungeon). Play the Flute near them, and they will be defeated instantly. If you don't have the Flute yet, avoid them or use Bombs as a last resort, though this is less efficient.
  • Typical Drops: Red Rupees, Hearts.

Zol & Gels

  • Behavior: Zols are larger blobs that split into two smaller Gels when hit. Gels are small, fast-moving blobs.
  • Strategy: Hit Zols with your Sword to split them. Then, quickly dispatch the Gels. The Spin Attack is highly effective for clearing out multiple Gels at once.
  • Typical Drops: Green Rupees, Hearts.

Buzz Blobs

  • Behavior: Electrified blobs that are invulnerable to direct Sword attacks. Touching them will shock Link.
  • Strategy: Use the Boomerang or Slingshot with any seed to stun them temporarily. Once stunned, they lose their electrical charge and can be hit with your Sword.
  • Typical Drops: Mystery Seeds, Hearts.

Like Likes

  • Behavior: These cylindrical, gelatinous creatures attempt to swallow Link. If successful, they will steal your Shield.
  • Strategy: Keep your distance and attack with your Sword from afar. If you get swallowed, rapidly press buttons to escape. If your Shield is stolen, you’ll need to defeat the Like Like to retrieve it, or purchase a new one from a shop.
  • Typical Drops: Hearts, occasionally a Gasha Seed (rare).

Poe

  • Behavior: Ghosts that float around, often in graveyards or dark areas. They are intangible and cannot be hit by your Sword directly.
  • Strategy: Use the Slingshot with Mystery Seeds to stun them, making them vulnerable to your Sword. Alternatively, the Pegasus Seeds (when used with the Slingshot) can also stun them.
  • Typical Drops: Blue Rupees, Hearts.

Remember to experiment with your various items and weapons. Sometimes, a seemingly weak enemy can be easily dispatched with the right tool, saving you precious health and time.
