Heart Container & Piece Acquisition

Maximizing your health in Holodrum is crucial for surviving the perilous dungeons and challenging boss battles. This section details the locations and acquisition methods for all Heart Containers and Heart Pieces in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons.

Each dungeon boss will drop a full Heart Container upon defeat, immediately increasing your maximum health by one heart. Heart Pieces, on the other hand, are scattered across Holodrum and require four to combine into a single Heart Container. Keep an eye out for these valuable collectibles!

Heart Containers (Boss Drops)

These are straightforward to obtain; simply defeat the boss of each main dungeon.

Gnarled Root Dungeon (Dungeon 1): Defeat the boss, Aquamentus.
Snake's Remains (Dungeon 2): Defeat the boss, Dodongo.
Poison Moth's Lair (Dungeon 3): Defeat the boss, Mothula.
Dancing Dragon Dungeon (Dungeon 4): Defeat the boss, Gohma.
Unicorn's Cave (Dungeon 5): Defeat the boss, Digdogger.
Ancient Ruins (Dungeon 6): Defeat the boss, Manhandla.
Explorer's Crypt (Dungeon 7): Defeat the boss, Head Thwomp.
Sword & Shield Maze (Dungeon 8): Defeat the boss, Medusa Head.

Heart Pieces (Overworld & Mini-Games)

Collecting these requires exploration, specific items, and sometimes a bit of luck or skill. There are 16 Heart Pieces in total, forming four additional Heart Containers.

Eastern Holodrum

Heart Piece #1: Woods of Fairies (South):
Location: In the screen directly south of the Woods of Fairies entrance (where you first meet Impa). You'll see a lone tree in the center of a small clearing.

Strategy: Use the Boomerang to cut down the bushes surrounding the tree. Once cleared, dig at the base of the tree with the Shovel to unearth the Heart Piece.
Heart Piece #2: Sunken City (North-East):
Location: In the northern part of Sunken City, near the entrance to the Sunken City Shop. There's a small island with a single bush.

Strategy: You'll need the Flippers to swim to this island. Cut the bush with your Sword to reveal the Heart Piece underneath.
Heart Piece #3: Spool Swamp (North-West):
Location: In the screen west of the entrance to the Gnarled Root Dungeon. There's a small pond with a lily pad.

Strategy: Equip the Roc's Feather. Jump across the lily pads to reach the Heart Piece. Be careful not to fall into the water!
Heart Piece #4: Horon Village (Shop):
Location: Inside the Horon Village Shop.

Strategy: This Heart Piece is available for purchase for 100 Rupees. It's best to save up early for this one.

Western Holodrum

Heart Piece #5: Western Coast (Beach):
Location: On the beach area in the far west of Holodrum, south of the Samasa Desert entrance. Look for a solitary rock near the water's edge.

Strategy: Use the Power Bracelet to lift the rock, revealing the Heart Piece.
Heart Piece #6: Samasa Desert (North-West):
Location: In the northwestern section of Samasa Desert. There's a screen with a few quicksand pits and a lone block.

Strategy: Push the block into a quicksand pit to create a path to the Heart Piece. You'll need to be quick to avoid sinking!
Heart Piece #7: Lost Woods (Spring):
Location: Within the Lost Woods, in the screen where you find the Spring season change point.

Strategy: Use the Rod of Seasons to change the season to Spring. A flower will bloom, allowing you to jump across a gap with the Roc's Feather to reach the Heart Piece.
Heart Piece #8: Graveyard (North-East):
Location: In the northeastern corner of the Graveyard. You'll see a grave that looks slightly different from the others.

Strategy: Push the unique grave to reveal a hidden staircase. Descend into the small cave to find the Heart Piece.

Northern Holodrum & Mt. Cucco

Heart Piece #9: Mt. Cucco (Peak):
Location: At the very peak of Mt. Cucco, accessible after obtaining the Roc's Cape.

Strategy: From the screen with the large waterfall, fly across the gap using the Roc's Cape. Continue upwards to the peak where the Heart Piece awaits.
Heart Piece #10: Mt. Cucco (Waterfall Cave):
Location: Inside a hidden cave behind a waterfall on Mt. Cucco. This is the same waterfall you can jump into.

Strategy: Jump into the waterfall. Inside the cave, navigate the simple path to claim the Heart Piece.
Heart Piece #11: Northern Peak (Subrosia Portal):
Location: In the Northern Peak area, near one of the portals leading to Subrosia.

Strategy: Use the Rod of Seasons to change the season to Winter. Snow will pile up, allowing you to reach a ledge that was previously inaccessible. The Heart Piece is there.

Subrosia & Other Locations

Heart Piece #12: Subrosia Village (Dance Hall):
Location: Inside the Subrosia Dance Hall.

Strategy: Participate in the Subrosian Dance mini-game. Successfully complete the dance sequence to earn the Heart Piece as a reward.
Heart Piece #13: Subrosia (Lava Lake):
Location: On a small island in the middle of the lava lake in Subrosia.

Strategy: You'll need the Magnetic Gloves. Use them to pull yourself across the lava to the island where the Heart Piece is located.
Heart Piece #14: Goron Mountain (Bomb-able Wall):
Location: On Goron Mountain, there's a suspicious-looking wall on one of the higher ledges.

Strategy: Use a Bomb to blast open the wall, revealing a small cave with the Heart Piece inside.
Heart Piece #15: Fairies' Woods (Gale Seed Tree):
Location: In the Fairies' Woods, near the Gale Seed tree. There's a small pool of water.

Strategy: Use the Flippers to swim into the pool. Dive down with the Pegasus Boots (or just swim if the water is shallow enough) to retrieve the Heart Piece from the bottom.
Heart Piece #16: Hero's Cave (Linked Game Only):
Location: This Heart Piece is only available in a Linked Game (after completing Oracle of Ages). It's found within the Hero's Cave, a bonus dungeon.

Strategy: Navigate the Hero's Cave. The Heart Piece is typically found in a chest after solving a puzzle or defeating a mini-boss within the dungeon.
